The plant you asked about is black cohosh, or as I remember it Cimicifuga racemosa (L.) Nutt., but some taxonomy work has returned it to the genus Actaea L. and the current accepted (?) nomenclature is Actaea racemosa L. - for details see Taxon 1998, 47, 593-634.

Yeah that's what it is alright. I just found my wildflower field guide (stuffed under the couch). missed any pics of you stove and of course myself. maybe next time.

I like the morning on Springer pixs myself. Wish I was still on the trail.

MaryPhyl - I'll only done about 100 miles on the AT, but I would like to finish of the GA section. 2scoops and I have that same goal.
After I retire in about ten years, I hope I'm still able to thruhike. A thruhike has been a dream for many years, but things like marriage, divorce, mortgage, work, keep getting in the way.
