Seeking shoe recommendations

My trusy old Vasque boots might need to be retired.

I'd like to switch to something lighter. My average pack weight is much less than it was when I bought those leather hevi-duty boots.

Anyone have any recommendations? I went through one pair of New Balance 804's, they fit poorly and they fell apart after a couple months, so I'll avoid NB in the future.

FWIW, I prefer Nikes. My last 3 pairs of running shoes are Nikes, they hold up good and are comfortable.

Here is the argument I use to hear alot....

"I need heavy boots because I have weak ankles."

Noooooo, you have weak ankles because you wear heavy boot.

Why would you want a recommendation from a shoe ????

Are you odd or something?

I love hiking in my New Balance 804's but like yours, they are falling apart.

Any other good trail runners out there?

I have hiked in my Nikes, but they have no tread and are slippery as he!! on rocks.

I bought a pair of north face ultra 100 gtx as they were on sale at a big discount, and although the goretex makes them a little sweaty in real heat, they appear to be a fine pair of shoes, real stable sole and they held up well on many river crossings made on Sunday.

I found a pair of Hi-tec's at Big Five for around $20.00...they are low cut and look allot like a beefy running shoe with a reasonable tread. I had to try on about 4 pair, then did a little mix and match to get one pair that fit really well, but I have been using these shoes for the last 2 years...they are even lighter then my Chaco Z 2's.

My Hi-Tecs have been through hell are and are still going strong, not bad for a $20.00 boot.

I get teased sometimes because of my mix of really hi tech gear with bargain basement items...I just tell folks to buy what works, not what looks pretty or has the current "IN" label.

Don't spread this around, but I own a J.C. Penny Mountain Dome tent.

My mother, bless her heart, was telling me about a real nice tent she saw at Walmart the other day.

Speaking of the Nikes, I was at Foot Locker buying bball shoes for a tournament a few months back, and they had a pair of Nike trailrunners that looked awesome. Tons of tread, and a buy one pair get one free sale. I almost skipped the ball shoes and got my wife and I a pair of trailrunners. Probably the same ones Strat was talking about.
