It's Hot in Here!

“Should I take the bonus I just received from work and fix my air conditioner which just decided to crap out on me after 17 years of faithful service -or- buy some new gear?”

“New gear, air conditioning is overrated. Gives me a headache to go in and out of it.”

“I am trying to convince my wife of that, John. It is not going to be too hot for the next week up here near Chicago. At least that is good.”

“Let's see....you are in Indiana.... Y'all use an a/c about 2 months out of the year (unlike 10 here in MS).....

“A REAL backpacker wouldn't care about air conditioning, they'd be outside backpacking!!!!!!!!”

“I have to put up with and nagging wife though. I will get it fixed or buy a new one just to shut her up. I live in Highland about 30 minutes from Chicago, John. How about you?”

“17 years old? I'd say get a new one. At least, if you lived down here, that's what I'd say. I don't know if the cost savings from the newer, more efficient A/C units are enough to eventually offset the cost of buying one.”

“Where you live you have a point. Down here you'll die without the a/c.”

“Other end of the state WK. I'm in Tell City on the Ohio River.”

“We have had some pretty bad days up here too this year. No where near as bad as the south. I hate the heat! Used to love it as a kid, now I love the cold.

I think the cost savings with a new unit will be pretty substantial. I have a friend that has a friend that services air conditioners. He said he can get me whatever I want at cost and install it for $50 and beer. Should have enough left to buy another pack.

Any recommendations? Should have about $400 to play with.”

“I got a new air conditioner! Cost was $700 and installed. Good friend of ours has a cousin that has been putting these things in for 20 years. He cam out last night and recommended scrapping old unit. Getting it installed tonight. Still have $2300 left of bonus to by new gear!!! What to get????”
