Today (July 16) is my birthday. One more year until the official start of senior-dom (although young female cashiers have been giving me senior discounts without asking since I was 47).

My sleeping bag (drawstring), thermarest pad (burn hole), tent (zipper), boots (soles), water filter (cracked), headlamp (fell apart), and backpack (awkward & heavy) all either failed, broke, or underperformed on Sierrapalooza. Several are repairable, but the quest for new gear is on!”

“Had a nice family BBQ tonight. Grilled Porterhouse steaks and salmon along with corn, artichokes, and baked potatoes.

Got new Merrell Chameleon Boots, Sweetwater Guardian, and Princeton Aurora headlamp. Also got about 7 packages of dehydrated/freeze dried foods. My son had my Big Five Lakes and Precipice Lake photos printed out 8x10 and framed. They look awesome and will go up in my office at school.

I also got DVDs: Terminator and T2 (two of my favorites)

I patched the second hole in my Thermarest LE and it seems to be holding pressure after about 4 hours.

Going out this weekend and I can try out my new equipment! (still need a new pack...but will have to wait on that).”
