Anybody watch Dateline?

“I flipped over to it on a commercial break during NYPD Blue. Brokaw was interviewing a bearded guy about some Mormon extremist in prison. He called the guy he was interviewing Krakauer, and the guy looked like him, but I wasn't sure, since it was a story on religious extremists. Is this the same Krakauer from Into Thin Air? What's he writing about Mormon extremists for? The 2 minutes I caught sounded pretty interesting. Whoever the convict was that they were talking about was being compared to Osama.”

“Yeah they had a review in the new Outside Mag this month. It's a true life crime drama about a nutty Morman family. Didn't sound like my cup of tea but then again, niether did a story about some dumbass floating from place to place and dieing on a bus in Alaska. It should be good.”

“Yeah tango, now that you mention it, I remember Brokaw saying "you know the mormons are going to be very upset don't you?"
It's interesting that Krakauer would go from outdoors type books to a book about religious extremists, but if it's as good as the two books of his I've read, it may be worth a look.”

“I meant to watch it and wound up falling asleep. On the preview they showed him and I thought, hey, that's that guy that wrote "Into Thin Air"”

“He was on Today. The book has gotten great reviews. He said he started researching the religion because he didn't get it. All the devotion and since he grew up out west around the Mormans he chose them. Then he said he ran into a whole town on the Arizona border that still believes in polygamy and the doctrines of the old Mormans. And went from there. Actually I will probably read this one.”

“they will have an interview tonight with Aron, the hiker that cut off his arm. Thought that would be pretty interesting. Also will show original video from those days. Pretty creepy.

They drug the story on for so long and I had plans to go out so after watching the first 45min I had to boogie. I heard it was a 2hr program.”

“He was on Letterman last night too. I am really impressed with his thoughtfulness and positive attitude. It really does make you think, all those day to day activitys that seem so bad...just aren't. He is very well spoken and interesting to listen too.”
