One of the other funniest things I've noticed over the past few years has been in our local paper. Our local cartoonist spends as much time skewering the “left” as he does the “right”. It’s a refreshing change for our local "liberal" rag. The REALLY funny part has been all the letters to the paper about this guy's reprehensible behavior and poor sense of humor.

It seems “liberals” have a great time laughing at others, but not themselves. Who would have thunk it?

That shallow level of self-examination must be a requirement for journalism school. It’s ruined what little respect the profession ever had. They still can’t figure out why they get no public respect for honest reporting and continue to loose market share. Maybe they’re hoping for government subsidies to prop them up.

Unfortunately for those who insist there is no “liberal” bias in the media, there has been no satisfactory proof. There has not even been presented any coherently logical argument. Having read What Liberal Media by Eric Alterman, I will debate anyone as to the fallacious logic of the arguments presented therein. I will also be happy to discuss the many documented examples of blatantly biased reporting and the methodologies of the studies documenting the same. That is, if someone who denies journalistic bias has ever bothered to examine the many sources of evidence.



The refusal to self-examine their own behavior only serves to reinforce the criticism that those on the “left” lack a philosophy of personal responsibility. And since “leftist” philosophies have been responsible for the vast majority of totalitarian regimes during the 20th century, the following quote becomes very poignant:

Absolutely, Nigal. Florida just passed a law making it illegal to confiscate firearms during emergencies. And how about that Castle Doctrine? Ann Coulter represents opinion journalism. Many people seem to confuse opinion journalism with informational journalism.

Much opinion journalism masquerades as informational journalism.

Ergo my message… Freakin’ educate yourself so that you’re not such a know-nothing. Who cares whether we agree in the end, but you can’t even have a knowledgeable discussion without doing some research. Maybe the political parties would actually offer us some good candidates if it weren’t so obvious that so many people are arrogantly ignorant and don’t take personal responsibility for researching the issues.

Specific Dan Rather quotes that are outrageous for an “unbiased” journalist.

A repeat of a discussion to find out what books people have read that may lead to an understanding of why the media decides to make an example of Ann Coulter.

A specific request to debate the merits of What Liberal Media by Eric Alterman.

A specific example of an idea from Goldberg’s book.

A request that the folks on this thread read ANYTHING besides newspapers and magazines on this issue.

And a question as to why the media would put so much energy into Ann Coulter’s opinions while ignoring another example of a “liberal” government official creating a totalitarian environment by suspending the constitutional laws of the U.S.
