I mean, it’s not like we woke up one day and said, “Gee, what we need is another liberal media outlet.””” 2:47:25 PM 6/23/06 “What a knee slapper. Sounds like you may need a few good comedians down your way. Four United States Presidents get caught up in a tornado ...and off they whirled to the land of OZ. They finally made it to the Emerald City and found the Great Wizard. "What brings the 4 of you before the great Wizard of Oz?" Jimmy Carter stepped forward timidly and said: "I've come for some courage." "No problem!", said the Wizard, "Who's next?" Ronald Reagan stepped forward, "Well, I think I need a heart." "Done!”, says the Wizard. “Who comes next before the Great and Powerful Oz?" Up stepped Dubya, who said, "I'm told by the American people that I need a brain." "No problem!” said the Wizard, “Consider it done. Anyone else?" Then there is a great silence in the hall. Bill Clinton is just standing there, looking around, but doesn’t say a word. Irritated, the Wizard finally asks, "Well, what do you want?" "IS DOROTHY HERE?"” 4:50:05 PM 6/23/06 “Arclite continues his McCarthyist preechings. Every night he pulls up the sheets to check for the Reds Under his Bed.” 5:36:42 PM 6/23/06 “Next up from Ann: "Children with terminal cancer use their disease to get sympathy. I have never seen children enjoying their diseases so much."” 12:38:57 PM 6/24/06 “Boycott Make A Wish!!!” 1:50:12 PM 6/24/06 “Actually it was quite funny, kleetn. But you've actually got to have a sense of humor to appreciate it. One of the other funniest things I've noticed over the past few years has been in our local paper. Our local cartoonist spends as much time skewering the “left” as he does the “right”. It’s a refreshing change for our local "liberal" rag. The REALLY funny part has been all the letters to the paper about this guy's reprehensible behavior and poor sense of humor. It seems “liberals” have a great time laughing at others, but not themselves. Who would have thunk it? And Y2 continues his head-stuck-in-sand routine. That shallow level of self-examination must be a requirement for journalism school. It’s ruined what little respect the profession ever had. They still can’t figure out why they get no public respect for honest reporting and continue to loose market share. Maybe they’re hoping for government subsidies to prop them up. Didn’t someone once say, “Those who cannot learn from their mistakes are bound to repeat them”? And so it goes…” 5:20:46 AM 6/26/06 “Nigal...did you hear I think three or so months ago about the 16 year old who was dying....His request from Make a Wish...HE wanted a Threesome! SMART KID> (LOL)” 7:04:09 AM 6/26/06 “Good points, arclite. Gee willikers, if Faux News and conservative talk radio keep up their domination of the airwaves, there won't even be a liberal media bias to whine about!” 9:31:23 AM 6/26/06 “Many different books and papers have been written on the subject of bias in journalism. The idea of bias in journalism has been publicly debated for some time. The denial of journalistic bias has all come from those with a vested self-interest in a political viewpoint that is “left of center”. The calls for self-examination of bias in journalism have come from may different sources: university professors, those inside the field of journalism, Democrats, Republicans, and many non-partisan public opinion polls. Those who refuse to examine the possibility of bias must believe in at least one of the following premises: 1. Assume a vast “right-wing” conspiracy to influence public opinion as well as assuming the complete gullibility of the majority of the public. 2. Assume that those who practice journalism are different from all other human beings in that they do not allow their well-documented political leanings to influence their work. 3. Assume that many, many people are lying. 4. Assume that all scientifically gathered data that shows bias is flawed. 5. Assume that all documented examples of bias are merely a matter of flawed perception. "Faced with the choice between changing one's mind and proving that there is no need to do so, almost everyone gets busy on the proof." John Kenneth Galbraith Unfortunately for those who insist there is no “liberal” bias in the media, there has been no satisfactory proof. There has not even been presented any coherently logical argument. Having read What Liberal Media by Eric Alterman, I will debate anyone as to the fallacious logic of the arguments presented therein. I will also be happy to discuss the many documented examples of blatantly biased reporting and the methodologies of the studies documenting the same. That is, if someone who denies journalistic bias has ever bothered to examine the many sources of evidence. The refusal to self-examine their own behavior only serves to reinforce the criticism that those on the “left” lack a philosophy of personal responsibility. And since “leftist” philosophies have been responsible for the vast majority of totalitarian regimes during the 20th century, the following quote becomes very poignant: "Any doctrine that…weakens personal responsibility for judgement and for action…helps create the attitudes that welcome and support the totalitarian state." John Dewey Any person who thinks that this issue can be dismissed, is a detriment to society. “An adult who ceases after youth to unlearn and relearn his facts and to reconsider his opinions…is a menace to a democratic community.” Edward Thorndike I cannot even fathom the mental state of someone who holds an opinion for which they have no logical or scientific backing. I count my blessings that is not a dysfunction I possess. I'd love to hear kleetn and Y2's excuses.” 10:30:15 AM 6/26/06 “that was the sargiest post i've seen since his hiatus began. except his posts normally had some dry witty humour to make it worth reading. blah, blah, blah, conspiracy, blah, blah blah, libs suck, blah, blah, blah.” 10:55:51 AM 6/26/06 “you forgot.... blah, blah, blah.....vitriolic denunciation, blah, blah, blah” 11:02:05 AM 6/26/06 “Funny. A thread about a nasty transexual brings out the 'guy' who wore a dress in his own wedding. ![]() last edited: 6/26/06 11:23:36 AM” 11:13:59 AM 6/26/06 “I don't recall making any excuses. I will point out that your point #1 Assume a vast “right-wing” conspiracy to influence public opinion as well as assuming the complete gullibility of the majority of the public. seems to neglect the fact that there must be some vast "left-wing" conspiracy. A conspiracy involving all the major newspapers and televsion networks. There must be! There has to be! Surely they all get together and discuss exactly how they are going to gang up on the poor conservatives. Gimme a break. The answer is so simple, even a Dittohead should be able to figure it out. If journalism schools are churning out only liberals, send all the Young Republicans to journalism school. Hell, get some conservatives to actually TEACH journalism.” 11:18:28 AM 6/26/06 “"Hell, get some conservatives to actually TEACH journalism." You mean teach SPIN?” 11:36:31 AM 6/26/06 “I wonder why the "fair and balanced" network reported this without question: On June 19, Fox News' Special Report with Brit Hume reported Vice President Dick Cheney's claim that he "did not think anybody anticipated the level of violence that we've encountered" in Iraq. Hey, Brit! Ask him if he read any of the pre-war intelligence reports! Hey, Brit! Ask Cheney if he remembers saying this in a 1992 speech to the Discovery Institute in Seattle: "I would guess if we had gone in there, I would still have forces in Baghdad today. We'd be running the country. We would not have been able to get everybody out and bring everybody home.... And the final point that I think needs to be made is this question of casualties. I don't think you could have done all of that without significant additional U.S. casualties. And while everybody was tremendously impressed with the low cost of the (1991) conflict, for the 146 Americans who were killed in action and for their families, it wasn't a cheap war... And the question in my mind is how many additional American casualties is Saddam (Hussein) worth? And the answer is not that damned many." Aw, shucks, we wouldn't want to ask the tough questions that are expected of journalists, now would we? We might be accused of having a liberal bias if we did that!” 12:02:26 PM 6/26/06 “ ![]() McArclite fighting for Freedom! last edited: 6/26/06 12:32:40 PM” 12:31:43 PM 6/26/06 “Fifty cents? WTF, ya gotta pay for their propaganda?” 12:37:27 PM 6/26/06 “Old news, old arguments, vast ignorance, kleetn. Goldberg postulates that there is no conspiracy to slant the news. He suggests that arrogant inability to self-examine is the cause. He says that most journalists honestly consider themselves to be “centrists” despite all evidence to the contrary. Considering the inability to self-examine that I’ve witnessed by most people (leftists being the most fun to pick on for their hypocritical closed mindedness) I have no problem believing his postulate. You’d save yourself that stupid FOX “fair and balanced” nya-nya argument if you’d read some of the studies available. After reading some of these posts…yup…I can easily believe in the “left’s” arrogant self-centered inability to self-examine and lack of personal responsibility. You're fun to laugh at. You folks would really save yourself a lot of time typing worthless emotional arguments if you’d bother to read. Reading not your forte’? Finish educating yourselves during college did you? Homer Simpson your hero is he? Ashamed of your ignorance you should be...yeeeeees.” 2:38:51 PM 6/26/06 “Arcy, fresh and origanal is not one Noobie's strong points. LOL!” 2:41:59 PM 6/26/06 “Doesn't this pony know any other tricks?” 2:43:29 PM 6/26/06 “Forgive me. I had assumed you were at least as intelligent as the aforementioned dittoheads. My bad.” 2:47:56 PM 6/26/06 “See arc? When faced with his own staleness Noobie goes straight for the Rush Dittohead crack. Dusty man. Just dusty.” 3:07:57 PM 6/26/06 “It's dangerous to get between Rush Dittohead and his crack.” 4:19:44 PM 6/26/06 “ ![]() Arclite & Nigal are keepin' the beat for ole rushypoo!” 6:18:10 PM 6/26/06 “Anyone who knows anything knows that niether Arc or myself even listen to Rush. Arc's at work and I'm always sleeping when he's on (just like most everyone else that actually tunes in to him). Is that the Union Lable Boy?” 6:33:08 PM 6/26/06 “These fools are just funny, Nigal. Not a one has read any of the many factual examinations, rhetorical analyses, or statistical studies about bias. But, between acting like fools, these boys do have emotionally based opinions. They remind me of listening to burnouts trying to solve the world’s problems while stoned. No logic, no basis, no research, just strong opinions. I’ll bet they cared very little about Echelon, Omnivore, and Carnivore. The media certainly didn’t care nearly as much about those civil liberty abuses. Do these lefties wonder why?…. Nah. These boys don’t appear to wonder about much. Can you say, “arrogant ignorance”? I knew you could.” 6:34:48 PM 6/26/06 “Ve must silence da opposition! “Matt, serious question: I've been trying to put Nigal and Stovestomper on "ignore" for over a year, and the site won't allow me to do it. Is this because they is a limit on how many people can have you on "ignore" at once, or is there a bug? If so, could you please raise the limit by at least 100, so I might have a shot at ignoring them within 24 hours. Thanks.” Buddha Bear 6:23:03 PM 6/26/06 ”6:34:53 PM 6/26/06 “Just from a citizen’s point of view, I wonder why there was no “public discourse” over confiscation of firearms from law-abiding citizens in New Orleans after Katrina. Mayor Nagin decided to confiscate firearms from their legal owners, some at gunpoint, while choosing to ignore the Constitution of the United States. The action was declared illegal and was overturned by the courts. But some folks never got their legally purchased firearms returned due to “clerical errors.” Now, it seems to me, that an action by the mayor of a major city, who decides to ignore the laws of the United States, in effect declaring Marshall Law, deserves as much news time as say a homosexual marriage bill in Massachusetts. Maybe I’m just not as centrist as those journalists who decided to bury the story of this illegal attack on our Constitution.” 5:20:11 AM 6/27/06 “Jeez, did you have a bad klan meeting last night or what arcy?” 5:44:04 AM 6/27/06 “".....arrogant self-centered inability to self-examine and lack of personal responsibility." Nice use of stock phrases in one sentence, but more of the same boring pseudo-intellectual crap. "You folks would really save yourself a lot of time typing worthless emotional arguments." Try taking your own advice, bright boy.” 6:19:41 AM 6/27/06 “arclite has convinced me. i used to believe that newspapers were trying to sell their papaers. i didn't believe they cared much about how they sold papers, they were just trying to make as much as possible. but now i see they're really all involved in a giant conspiracy to flood all media outlets with liberal propaganda. i can now see how journalists intentionally bury any news that might lean right. it's not about making money, they're all in the business to turn us into a communist state. thanks arclite for showing us the light.” 6:29:18 AM 6/27/06 “Good news is coming out of the blatant violation of the Constitution Arc. The NRA has mobilized and is now helping states frame laws that protect their citizens from this type of thing ever happening in their states. NRA = Freedom” 6:49:51 AM 6/27/06 “Funny. A thread about a nasty transexual brings out the 'guy' who wore a dress in his own wedding. - violin This is rich - just the other day the America Hater was on his high horse about personal attacks: I think you can see why they make personal attacks ped. Once they start engaging on substance, you see they live in a fantasy world. Gotta love violin's situational ethics.” 6:59:25 AM 6/27/06 “Hmmmm, a fantasy world of elves and faeries and hobgoblins. Don't forget the bugaboos.” 7:09:24 AM 6/27/06 “And please don't feed the orcs.” 7:10:43 AM 6/27/06 “Not only that Mutt, but I wonder is violin's lefty buddies would say he belongs in cultural sensitivity training classes with stupid drivel like that. Nah, they’d only make him go if he posted a picture of a black guy getting married in a dashiki. He’s a shameless hypocrite. And his barbs lack teeth. Absolutely, Nigal. Florida just passed a law making it illegal to confiscate firearms during emergencies. And how about that Castle Doctrine? The lefties had themselves all wound up about all the carnage that would create. They never get tired of being wrong. But they have no problem showing us, by their actions, how ignorant they are. Now other states are following Florida’s lead except, of course, the People’s Republic of California and the Eastern Bloc States. You go, Nigal. It's nice to read something other than the incredibly stupid chit that has been posted here as a response to “liberal” bias in the mainstream media. I think some folks have nothing better to do than listen to their own voices. It must be really funny listening to them babbling around a campfire. I’ll bet none of them read over a third grade level. That or they forgot how. The stupidity of believing I’m telling folks what to think is jaw dropping. Lack of personal responsibility. Some folks keep proving it, and proving it, and proving it... Arrogant ignorance. Some folks keep proving it, and proving it, and proving it... last edited: 6/27/06 2:56:34 PM” 2:54:55 PM 6/27/06 “I think some folks have nothing better to do than listen to their own voices. Or the sound of their keyboard being pounded continuously. I wonder who has the most posts on this thread?” 3:00:22 PM 6/27/06 “In agreement. If we will look for out solutions from the People instead of Government we will find more effective, less costly and more fair solutions to problems. As for the whole trans thing....remember only 30% of the gay men in this country were born that way the other 70% were S@#ked into it.” 3:03:47 PM 6/27/06 “Hey arc – This is the “Ann Coulter” thread. There are already a couple of “media bias” threads. Use them. I apologize for my insensitive remark. Any fool can see you got married in a skirt, not a dress.” 3:24:30 PM 6/27/06 “My ancestors are founding members of THE LADIES FROM HELL, violin. You think your comments are clever? Ann Coulter represents opinion journalism. Many people seem to confuse opinion journalism with informational journalism. Much opinion journalism masquerades as informational journalism. Ergo my message… Freakin’ educate yourself so that you’re not such a know-nothing. Who cares whether we agree in the end, but you can’t even have a knowledgeable discussion without doing some research. Maybe the political parties would actually offer us some good candidates if it weren’t so obvious that so many people are arrogantly ignorant and don’t take personal responsibility for researching the issues. And what a great example media bias provides. Don’t you think? So far I’ve offered up: Examples of nasty insults by “liberals” that, unlike Ann Coulter’s comments, weren’t trotted out by the media for examination. Specific Dan Rather quotes that are outrageous for an “unbiased” journalist. A repeat of a discussion to find out what books people have read that may lead to an understanding of why the media decides to make an example of Ann Coulter. A specific request to debate the merits of What Liberal Media by Eric Alterman. A specific example of an idea from Goldberg’s book. A request that the folks on this thread read ANYTHING besides newspapers and magazines on this issue. And a question as to why the media would put so much energy into Ann Coulter’s opinions while ignoring another example of a “liberal” government official creating a totalitarian environment by suspending the constitutional laws of the U.S. It’s hard to go back and read the depth of intelligent discussion that followed from the likes of kleetn, Y2, marko, sacco, et. al. without lapsing into a coma. It’s brain death by drivel.” 3:13:21 PM 6/28/06 “Golly, I don't want to argue with YOU. You seem much too intelligent. You must do research and stuff. You use words like ergo. That's bìtchin'. ![]() last edited: 6/28/06 4:06:10 PM” 4:04:37 PM 6/28/06 “poor arclite. it's must be hard for a man as well informed and open mined as he is to find anyone to have a conversation with. the best part is how arclite continually let's us all know how much smarter he is than nearly everyone else; then in the same post repeats how arrogant and ignorant we all are for not completely agreeing with his opinions. you seem very upset arcy-poo. maybe you should take a break.” 4:14:15 PM 6/28/06 “Yup. Voting Republican is really the smart thing to do.... Has anyone checked the National Debt lately?” 4:17:59 PM 6/28/06 “So let me get this right; arc takes the time to give complete and coherent (even if ya don't agree with him he is well spoken) and all you guys want to bring is two line posts saying basically, "Yer stupit dude."? Am I correct in this thinking? I do give the Noobie credit for at least posting a funny gif.” 6:21:28 PM 6/28/06 “Kleetn: No substance, just irrelevant emotional drivel and personal attack. Sacco: No substance, just emotional opinion, irrelevant drivel and personal attack. Tilt: No substance, irrelevant political posturing. It’s amazing to me how some folks live their lives in ignorance and believe they are being clever. These emotional rants, and personal attacks, are funny for a while. Then it just gets sad. When I continue see people who are incapable of making rational and intelligent decisions for themselves, I have no doubt why we get the quality of political leaders we continue to have making decisions for us. But, unlike what the leftys want to do to everyone who disagrees with them, I don’t believe in controlling their behavior. It’s just a continuous process with most leftys. They can vomit their smarmy ideas about any issue. How about their innuendo that Warren Buffet is buying his way to morality? Has anybody seen that conceptual gem? And how about Lawrence Summers? He certainly discovered how the leftys feel about constitutionally protected freedom of speech. We see a pattern here of personal attack, emotional opinion, and political posturing, even on University campuses. These leftys are just….sad excuses.” 5:32:45 AM 6/29/06 “welcome back, s-rge” 5:34:47 AM 6/29/06 “Then there is Ward Chruchill...he had to violate EVERY tenant of Education to finally get a SHOT at termination. Sorry but Big Education is wallowing in filth.” 6:14:44 AM 6/29/06 “How come Republicans, Libertarians & Fascists never get arrested? All the DNA is the same, and lack of teeth prevent dental record ID's.” 6:38:49 AM 6/29/06 “welcome back, s-rge” Crash Bang 5:34:47 AM 6/29/06 There's a megalomaniac in every crowd. Ooooo Buddha, not the teeth!!! (ha ha!!)” 6:45:30 AM 6/29/06 “I've met Arclite. He is an intelligent guy and a pretty nice and easygoing one too. However political discussions do very little to accentuate the positive aspects of any of our personalities. Having said that I must say that Ann Ryand is still a boring socio/political pundit posturing as an author.” 6:51:29 AM 6/29/06 Jump to Page << prev
