Emigrant Lake Trip ReportView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 7 of 7 messages posted.
“Myself, my friend from work and his two boys are back from Emigrant Lake, we went on Sunday and Monday. We started from the Trailhead at the west end of Caples Lake. The trail was pretty easy going as it followed the shore of the lake, when it turned south from the lake we started climbing. We gained about 1000' over the next two miles, not a killer but steep enough for the three first time bpers. We got to the lake about 5 hours after we left the trailhead (lots of breaks and sidetrips). The lake is awesome, it is not huge but the setting is beautiful. It sets at the bottom of steep canyon walls on three sides, there is still some snow lingering on the north facing slopes. The outlet creek has created a meadow filled with all sorts of wild flowers. A thunderstorm moved in at about 2:00 p.m. and put some rain down so we sat up our shelters and I ended taking a nap until about 5:00 p.m. The sunset made for a wonderful view to go with dinner. We headed back down in the morning with the boys setting a quick pace. Once we got down to Caples Lake, and in sight of the dam at the trailhead, the pace picked up considerably. It took us less than half the time to come back as it did to get there. We all had a great time, even though the forecast did not quite hit the mark. My buddy and his boys are looking forward to going again when the opportunity arises. I guess that the scenery and solitude had more impact than the sweat and the mosquitos.” 9:46:45 AM 7/22/03 “Nice Tahoe! That is a fun place. Never been packing there tho. Good report :) Now....where are the pictures?” 9:50:30 AM 7/22/03 “It sounds like a really beautiful place.” 9:51:31 AM 7/22/03 “Tahoe, did you fish the lake? If so, how was it?” 10:24:11 AM 7/22/03 “I did not fish at Emigrant Lake, but I seen (saw?) others fishing. I did not see anyone catching anything, but I did see a buch of fish in the outlet creek. There were alot of people fishing at Caples Lake, and they were catching some trout. Photos, Well I don't exactly know how to do all that, I guess I need to go to webshots and figure out how to get that done. Does anyone know if I could use scanned images? I use a regular camera, not a digital.” 12:37:14 PM 7/22/03 “Scanned images work the same as pictures from a digital camera. It's pretty easy to use webshots and worth the minimal effort. I visited Emigrant last summer and it felt like a fall weekend. It was blustery and cold but beautiful. I took the wrong trail leaving Caples and ended up in Kirkwood before going x-country down to the lake.” 1:13:06 PM 7/22/03 “Yes, the signs along the way are deceiving. The first one is labled "Historic Emigrant Lake Trail" not the trial to Emigrant Lake, the second is kind of turned sideways and it would be easy to head toward "Kirkwood Meadow" when Emigrant Lake is the destination.” 1:30:41 PM 7/22/03
