Is Old Mine Road open?

“Has Old Mine Road in the Delaware Water Gap NRA been reopened or is it still closed for maintenance?”

“All I know is that it was still closed a week and a half ago. There is probably a website with construction work details listed for that area.”

“Drat! I'll have to find another route to the Coppermine Trail in order to sample the blueberry crop on Sunday.”

“I heard it was going be closed all Summer.”

“According to this press release it should have reopened this past weekend. I will contact the Park Service and see what's shakin.

Story”

“That would be great if it is finally open again. That detour takes forever. Who knows, ya might see me there Sunday.”

“If you go on Sunday post when and where. If I'm not working I may head down there.”

I emailed the park. They didn't answer the phone.”

“Of course with my wheelbarrow. I'll need something to put the blueberries in.”

“Oh, I get it. We drink the beer and replace it with blueberries.”

“Just called park headquarters. The Old Mine Road has not been reopened yet and there is no word when it will reopen.

There is a road up to Camp Mohican from the east side, but I can't remember if there is parking available there. The road cuts across the AT above the Coppermine Trail.”

Do you know the way through Blairstown?”

“I can find it on the map. Not sure which way to go with this. I was looking in the hiking guide last night, and may just do the hike up the trails in Worthington State Forest instead and go to see the cores. Day parking is allowed on the Camp Mohican Road, so that is the other possibility.

Must Hike and Pennsy: are you still interested?”

“I think the cores are actually in the portion of Old Mine Rd. that is closed.”

“Geo - I'd say parking near Camp Mohican would be a good idea. You could do a loop including the AT, Kaiser and Coppermine trails.

Or, just stay on 94 north to Blairstown, turn left on Blairstown-Millbrook Rd and follow it to the north end of Old Mine Rd. There are detour signs all along the way so it should be easy to find.

I won't know about Sunday until Sunday. My work schedule this week has been helter skelter with the bad storms in NJ. If you know what you're gonna do, post the time and place and I'll see if I can make it.”

“Not too sure about time at this point, but it looks like the Coppermine circuit is the deal. The road up to Camp Mohican cuts off 94 before Blairstown according to Topozone. It's the same circuit, just starting from the top instead of the bottom. Should make the blueberries sweeter.

“I’m in the same boat as Pennsy. Work is crazy right now and I’ll defiantly have some work to do Saturday. Sunday is still up in the air. If you can post your intended route and times. I may bring my daughter along she needs the exercise, field hockey practice starts in a few weeks and she has been slacking on the workouts.”

“LOL, I actually like my job, it’s just when I have to work on weekends. I’ve worked to 10:00 PM the last two nights. The good thing is I can do some of the work from home. The cable modem is a wonderful thing.”

“Okily Doakily guys, here's what I'm a-gonna do. I'll try to get to the trailhead about 10-10:30 on Sunday morning. It's the AT crossing of the Camp Mohican Road. If you're going to make it, give me a shout on the cellphone. You can call me sometime Sunday morning while I'm on the road. If I don't hear from you, I'll assume you've been captured by aliens and eaten alive. I'll also assume they'll spit you back out, but not in time for the hike. Does that sound like a plan?
