Pads (for Hammock)

I'm looking at a few different options for a pad for my hammock (for insulation on cool nights and for padding when I use the hammock as a bivy).

I'm mostly debating between Oware's evazote pads, and OWFC's FY 20 (which replaces their bevalite 2), although I was also considering some of the pads at MECA.

Does anyone have any advice or comparative info about these pads or other options?

I'm finally going to get around to order something so I can have it for the NH AT travers.

Here are the sites:

I've tried the Oware evazote pad and was not real happy with it in the hammock - surface is grabby making it somewhat hard to arrange oneself in the hammock. I have had no experience with the FY20 pads. What I use these days is the blue walmart foam pad with a couple "wings" duct taped to cover my shoulders. Note the wings fold in when packing up. The wings are made from the Oware pad material.

I just use my ThermARest UltraLite 3/4. In the warmer weather, I just sleep on top of it with a military poncho liner over me (this works to 40-45 degrees). In cold weather, I put it inside my sleeping bag. No slippage problems.

What fatass goose said. Thermarest works just fine.

Thanks for the input. I tried my thermarest, but it was a little narrow for me int the hammock. Maybe I could attach wings to it (or to my z rest).

Experimentation is the key...got any suitable trees in your back yard???

When I use a thermarest I take some extra fleece or heavy long johns to stuff by my shoulders or I sleep in a heavier jacket than what I would normally hike in for the temps. I use a thermarest LE when the temps drop below 40 deg F. I see no reason however that taping on some wings wouldn't work just as well.

Just be prepared for the "big sanitary napkin" jokes if you put wings on that thing.

Well, this "troll" has had more experience with hammocking than you ever will, lardass.

Actually, no suitable trees in the backyard. I think I will leave some alternative padding in my car when I do my two week section hike and preposition the car so I can trade gear in case I don't like what I go with.

Thanks again FG and HOI.

I doubt it. You'd have to leave your fantasy world for that, you putz.
