Road TRIP! Pacific Northwest

“Hey all, My wife and I are taking a three week vacation with no particular plan other than to drive north. We leave this Monday.

Any of you TT'ers along the way want to meet up? We'll probably make it all the way up to Vancouver, with stops along the way in whatever cities interest us.

Also, anyone have some suggestions on what not to miss along the way?”

“When you get north of Seattle, stop at Anacortes and take the ferry through the San Juan Islands and over to Vancouver Island, BC. It's beautiful up there; you can whale watch, kayak, visit Victoria,...great place!”

Actually, I will be on the Oregon coast all next week then heading out the week after for a 5 day BP trip in Glacier Peak Wilderness. You and your wifey are welcome to come along if you want!”

If you are heading through Oregon on the coast make sure you stop at the Pelican Brewery south of Cape Meares, all the capes and all the lighthouses, the Oregon Coast Aquarium, the old town of Florence, Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach, and the Pig and Pancake in Cannon Beach. I could go on and on since I honeymooned on the Oregon coast.”

“What is your point of departure, and what kind of things can you do (like day hikes, bike rides, car camping, backpacking, etc)?”

“Do you have some special interests like shopping for antiques, visiting public aquariums, etc? Will you be cmaping, staying in motels, saying in national park cabins, etc?”

“We're leaving from Sacramento, and we have fairly diverse interests. Anything outdoorsy is good.”

“My friend just returned from Vancouver Island where she and her boyfriend rented a tandem kayak for a few days of play. She said it was amazing. You should look into that!”

“Phaed, sounds like fun. I've got 18 days of vacation in August and was going to head up to Glacier NP then up into Canada. The plan was to spend the bulk of vacation wandering the Canadian Rockies before heading towards Whistler and Vancouver than back home. Unfortunately, it's not gonna work out, oh well, maybe next year.”

“My girlfriend and I looped the Olympic Peninsula and took a ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria for the day. It was great.

Bring a birth certificate or passport if you do this. Al Quaeda tried to get a car full of plastic explosives through on this ferry and now the border check is tight. They have US guards on both sides of the straits.”

“too bad - if you ever make a trip down Mexico way then by all means let's at least have lunch together. i'm 11 or so miles inland from the PCH. that's a nice drive up to Vancouver - me & the hubby did it just after he graduated from college. spent almost every penny we had on 2 weeks of fun and car-camping.”

“If you're coming by Coos Bay on the central Oregon Coast, give me a call! What day do you think you'll be in the area? It would be great to meet up with you again & meet your wife. Plenty to do and see here... Dunes (I have a great dune/ocean/forest day hike.. might be able to play hookey or at least give you directions). If you're around at dinner time there is plenty of options (like oysters? I live very close to the oyster farm), kayak in the bay/estuary in Bandon, want to windsurf??, ride bikes, etc.. Soooo... the choices are yours! Just let me know! Also, are you car camping, staying in motels?

The Southern Oregon Coast is stunning from Brookings to Coos Bay! Take time to stop at the beaches on the way. Don't forget to stop in Port Orford and eat the best Fish & Chips on the coast at the Crazy Norweigan's!

“Ride the dune buggies on the Newport coast. Go to Silver Falls State Park east of Salem. Visit Tofino on the West coast of Vancouver Isle. Rake the glacier bus in the Columbia Snowfields. Get a canoe and throw a line out at Wells Gray Provincial park. Drink lots of beer. Oh, Vancouver has the best looking hookers of any major city.”

“There aren't any homeless people though cous Rockman took care of em. I mean "took care of em". I hope I'm not too late with this but pick up some great micro brews and we'll do a tasting party at one of the parks when you get back.There are several as you head north so we can settle on your expenses when you get back if the money holds out that long. Be carefull on those two lane roads and have a great trip. The only regrets you'll have is too many sights and not enough time.”
