The Person You Are Harassing Is Unavaila ble...View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 23 of 23 messages posted.
Telemarketers Are Suing The FTC “So, let me get this straight. These parasites are saying that these regs will cost them two million jobs because those same regulations will cut their business by $50 Billion in sales each year. So, what they are saying is if they were allowed to continue harassing people, they would make money. These people feel imposed upon enough to put themselves on a do-not-call list, but would fork over their hard earned bucks if the tm's were allowed to call them? That's seems to be a big exaggeration to me. Also, I found it interesting that those political calls for candidates that you get around election time are exempt. Teletubbies” 12:36:35 PM 7/29/03 “Boo friggen hoo.” 12:41:38 PM 7/29/03 “Our residential divisions are completely closing the telemarketing units. Personnel are being transferred to customer service and our marketing department estimates that with a shift toward more mail, it will have a minimal impact on sales. We hold the number one position on eight brand lines and our focus will shift to customer retention more than new sales.” 12:49:15 PM 7/29/03 “Let them call! I solved the problem by cancelling my telephone service.” 12:50:14 PM 7/29/03 “"Boo friggen hoo." ThePackMan 12:41:38 PM Did you need spell check for this?” 12:51:27 PM 7/29/03 “Ok, we have a "Do Not Call" registry. But with an expected increase in paper mail, do we have a "Do Not Send" list. I don't want unwanted product information in my mailbox any more than I want unwanted phone calls. What a waste of trees!!” 12:54:05 PM 7/29/03 “Chili, so you are saying you are going back to good old fashion Junk mail? :)” 12:55:42 PM 7/29/03 “That just about sums it up, hyway.” 1:04:02 PM 7/29/03 “Let them call! When they do, I take great pride in my ability to make the callers hang up on me. Most times I never get a call from them again. Reverse harrasment works for me.” 1:09:24 PM 7/29/03 “I like the Seinfeld episode where Jerry gets a call and asks for the the telemarketer's number so he can call them back at home.” 1:10:37 PM 7/29/03 “What pisses me off is when someone calls "on behalf" of some police or firefighters association. If you decide to give to these "charities", find out how much of your donation actually goes to help the police or firefighters. Occassionally, as little as 10% of your donation goes to help the cause. The rest goes to line the pockets of the association's executives. I give directly to our local police and fire departments and 100% of my donation goes where I intend.” 1:15:32 PM 7/29/03 “Junk mail is fun. I send it right back to them with the postage free envelope.” 1:19:52 PM 7/29/03 CD “In the link, it says that charities are exempt from the new regs, just like the political ones...” 1:21:21 PM 7/29/03 “Hey if you get calls from military recruiters, just ask if your militia can barrow some of the guns. They won't call again.” 1:21:22 PM 7/29/03 Treebeard “Yeah, I know. But are they really charities when so little goes to help the cause? I think not. I think it's a ruse.” 1:24:03 PM 7/29/03 “Ditto Packman.” 1:24:10 PM 7/29/03 “ahhh, finally a topic that cuts across party lines.” 1:26:02 PM 7/29/03 “CD, I aree. It seems that they can skirt the regs a bit that way...” 1:32:13 PM 7/29/03 “They're blowin' smoke up our skirts~~%O” 1:53:08 PM 7/29/03 “Creekdancer - I would be surprised if more than 5% goes to the charity in situations where they use a fundraising telemarking service. The charities basically get some donations for lending their name for legal purposes. Long ago I quit donating to those types of charities. If I want to help I send a check directly to the charity itself. Over the past 25 years that we have lived in our current home we have received thousands of telemarketing calls. I would say that we have probably done business with about a half dozen businesses for various reasons (exterminators, tree service, portrait studios, long distance service, etc.). The sad truth is that most of those services turned out to be disappointments and the telemarketer's promises were half-truths. I now work by referral only and the results are much better. We got a "telezapper" about 5 or 6 months ago and it has reduced telemarketing calls by at least 80%. We love it. My biggest headache now is spam...but I don't want to go there.” 1:54:26 PM 7/29/03 “The "telezapper" sounds great if it's like a bug zapper and could send a current back to the originating phone!” 1:56:12 PM 7/29/03 “Seems to me that this new Do Not Call list saves the tm's money. Now they don't have to waste their time on so many people who come up with schemes to use up their time and never buy anything (like me).” 1:58:21 PM 7/29/03 “Hmm, I will look into a telezapper. Since I was laid off, I spend more time at home and the calls are getting on my nerves.” 1:58:22 PM 7/29/03
