“wounded knee, you can park by the campsites. im sure you could persuade someone to even carry your pack up from your car.
i don't know if it's allowed but they do have roads going right into the campsites also, to fill the water. you could just park at the water tank. i've parked pretty close before but never left my car in the site.”

“I may change my mind again. I walked a bit last night with my pack on and the knee did ok. One reason I did not feel as bad canceling this trip was that I have things to do around the house, except now it supposed to rain all damn weekend! The weather in Ohio looks awesome!”

“quick question, what is the grab bag and I think I remember reading that we don't need to bring a water filter because they have pumps there?”

“A grab bag is when everyone brings a small item to put in a bag. $5 item or around there. It can be anything you want. The forgetfulls usually throw in some trail snacks. Then we all draw out a gift. It is like xmas around a campfire. I am going to bring something from Cincinnati. Maybe something Bengal related.

There is stored water on the trail head so you do not need to bring your water filter. There is no water source except for the tanks. I have never heard of the tanks not being full.”

We lost a few people from yesterday. I have been laughing on how much of a see saw the group numbers have been on this trip. At one time I think it was up to 21 or 22. Very funny.”

“Look, I am coming with a very sore right elbow so I will have Darvoset (sp?). If nothing else, this should be sort of like Woodstock, all the drugs but not the music. So, limp on down there! I wanna meet ya!”

“I am probably coming except I will be there around 1 or so on Saturday. We are camping at H Saturday, right?”

“If I can find my charcoal grill I might just drive to campsite H after the game Sat and bring burgers and hot dogs for everyone. Then I'd dayhike with you guys back to A. Anyone that wanted could leave their packs in my car and we could get them once we're done with the trail. Anyone up for that?”

“Anything you want me to bring? I have a sweet new pack that is only half full.”

“Had too many watching the game...wasn't fit to make the drive :-( Next time! Let's get another hike in OH scheduled!”

“I don't want to talk about where I was. All I am going to say is that is was dark and I was confused. I was hoping that you wer going stay another nignt, but I understand.


We had a great time. Lots of laughs. We hiked the whole loop. I have never done that back part of the loop coming back to the parking lot. It was very nice. It was wet the last mile, but did not inhibit our progess.

We all stopped at Zaleski Tavern and had a very good lunch. Mostly Cheeseburgers. I am sure someone will post a picture. I used Lisa's camera, so I am not in it.

The trip was great. Weather was perfect, company was perfect and I got to stretch the legs a little bit.

Yo Bear. I tried your stove. The stove worked fine, but I don't think I like achole stoves. I will just plan a pilgramage to New Mexico to deliver my empties to the Mother ship.

“I will check it out. I might be in the Gorge next week. If I know where you are camping, I might stop by. I am still not sure I am hike next week, but I might.”

“I can not remember everyone names. Dhutch1,Yam,Sass,Match,ltwghtbk,Eveningred (new guy) Wolfsister, ...

I have some children crying so i have to go.”

“Hi Big Pop! Remember me? :)”

“Ltwtbkpkr picked my up at 0’ dark thirty Saturday morning and went directly to get coffee. After coffee, we headed down to Zaleski State Forest in Ohio. After about 3 miles down I-75, Ltwtbkpkr missed the signs for I75 south so we ended up almost downtown Detroit. After safely getting us turned around, I decided this ride was going to need extra attention if we were going to make it to Ohio. Sassafras warned me that riding with Ltwtbkpkr, we might end up in another state. I did not realize that I would beleive her so soon into the trip.

We finally made it to the trailhead at around, I don’t remember what time. We started on the trail and almost immediately, came up on a sign that said Oak Hollow’s Trail, which Ltwtbkpkr thought was the way. Naturally, him being the man, and I being the woman, he was right and so we went this way. It was, of course, not the right way. But, it was very pretty and as it turns out, we were not the only ones to have taken the wrong way. I forgave him and all was well. While hiking to camp, we intersected with Trekkngirl which was great because then we knew for sure we were going the right way!

Once we got to the camp, we met Match, Wolfsister, Sassafras. Shortly thereafter, Dhutch and Scott(EveningRose, Oven Roll, not sure which name) were dragged via Shanedog. Off in the brush, a sound was heard, and there he was, the birthday boy himself, Ewker. We went through introductions, and carried on with eating snacks, watching Shanedog do tricks for treats and water, and wondered where Bigpoppa was.

Big Poppa finally appeared with his dog, Sully, and now, all we were waiting for was Yam and Embear, coming up from good ol Tennessee. All this time, Sassafras was asking every hour (or less, I think), “Can we do the grab bag now, huh? Can we?” And we all kept telling her no! Lo and behold, just before the darkest of the night came, here comes Yam and Embear. Ltwtbkpkr was very glad to hear they saw a cemetary too as that meant they went the wrong way.

We all had a very good time. We all dipped the hands into the grab bag, pulled out very cool gifts, drank adult beverages, passed around the motrin, and I was in bed by 9PM. Best nights sleep I have had in a long time.

It was great to meet new people! It was a pleasure meeting Ewker, Yam, Embear, Wolfsister, Evening Red Rose Oven Roll, Trekkngirl, Match and Bigpoppa. All of you were great fun and I hope to be able to hike with you again. Ltwtbkpkr, you are a GEM! Thank you for the drive there and back. You make me laugh and I had a great time with you!

By the way, my grab bag gift was a Black Diamond nalgene bottle with a flashlight carabeener and a tie-dyed bandana in it. VERY COOL gift and thank you!”
