Now what do I do?View Messages“So I went away this weekend and came home with a 12.5 foot Kayak. thats the good part. The bad part is where do I put it? Treebeard offered to take the yak up the stairs for me. (4 fligts) so i empty the car, which took about a 1/2 hr. When I got back to the apartment he had only gotten to the 2nd landing. He told me there was no way in ^&&%$$$% %*(^((% #&IUH O 6((_ Hell that we were going to get it into the apt. :( so we had to take it to the roof. this thing is HUGE. (boy am I glad treebeard loves me) so now the question is "Where Do I put it?"” 8:54:31 AM 8/04/03 “Rent a storage area.” 8:56:38 AM 8/04/03 “I thought about it. it would cost something like 150.00 a month. OUCH” 8:57:27 AM 8/04/03 “I guess you could rent a parking space for it...or you could store it at my house in NH.” 8:57:34 AM 8/04/03 “Geobeet did make that offer to me this past weekend. LOL” 8:58:12 AM 8/04/03 “Maple, I've already offered to store it for you. BTW folks, it's the HMS Pottymouth we're talking about. Again Maple, bring it on down and I'll keep it for you. (Heh Heh! Class V rapids, here I come!)” 8:59:33 AM 8/04/03 “a small u-store isnt that much but rates maybe higher where you are....” 9:00:36 AM 8/04/03 “thats the truth. we have one already and it's cost enough :( it's only 8x8 i would need something much bigger.” 9:02:16 AM 8/04/03 “If you cut it in half, storage should be no problem.” 9:06:43 AM 8/04/03 9:11:36 AM 8/04/03 “See if a restaurant will store it for you. No really, here in Tell CIty, there's a couple that has a very nice hand crafted wooden canoe. They use it on their lake and at other locations during the summer. In the winter a local restuarant stands it on end in a corner of the dining room. It goes well with their other outdoor motiffe and is free winter storage for the couple :-)” 9:13:29 AM 8/04/03 “Certainly would be conversation piece.” 9:14:04 AM 8/04/03 “You know....you could keep it in my place...um....if I get to use it!! LOL Congratulations on your new baby!” 9:15:31 AM 8/04/03 “Fill it with dirt and use it for a planter in front of your building.” 9:16:03 AM 8/04/03 “all are good ideas and that was the orig. plan but first I need to get it into the apartment. thats the big problem :)” 9:16:31 AM 8/04/03 “TT, how would you get it into the water? ride with it on your back on your bike? LOLOLOl that would be funny to see” 9:17:37 AM 8/04/03 “Geez mapleleaf, you really are nutz about this kayakin' $h!t!” 9:19:39 AM 8/04/03 “How 'bout riggin'a block and tackle to your window sill???” 9:20:41 AM 8/04/03 “You would drive me to the water because of the rent free storage - you see? Ha! Did you see the downtown boathouse link? Maybe you could work something out with them?” 9:22:05 AM 8/04/03 “I have the solution for you Mapes, kind-hearted guy that I am. Here's the deal. You now own, what, three kayaks? Duh! Tree can start a marina to store them, then rent out space to other boaters to pay the bills. It could be located off the end of the car impound lot pier, since you guys already spend a lot of time there. See, now your problem's solved!” 9:28:14 AM 8/04/03 “FG's suggestion is what they do in Holland. A lot of the houses there have narrow interior staircases, so they usually have a big window on the second floor, and a block and tackle rig hanging above it so they can get stuff upstairs.” 9:29:15 AM 8/04/03 “How about if I start impounding boats, Geo! At $185 a pop, within a few short months, I could actually pay off all of Maple's kayak and digital camera bills...” 9:29:55 AM 8/04/03 “There ya go tree. You just have to think outside the 9:31:07 AM 8/04/03 “you forgot about the straps I lost too :(” 9:32:17 AM 8/04/03 “I love the way you left him to carry it up four flights of stairs on his own ;o)” 9:32:28 AM 8/04/03 “Oh yes. Paying for those must have been so good the first time around that you figured going through it again would be lovely...” 9:33:04 AM 8/04/03 “Lock it to the car rack and leave it there!” 9:33:06 AM 8/04/03 “tree took the kayak up stairs and I went to park. I forgot about the straps and the foam things. when I went back they were gone. welcome to freakin NY.” 9:33:08 AM 8/04/03 “They'll carry my car away. see bit's 'they took the shole house' thread...” 9:33:44 AM 8/04/03 “Right, Maple! Blame NY. I'm sure if you left them out in the open for several hours anywhere else in the US, they would have been there when you got back...” 9:34:54 AM 8/04/03 “Did you guys ever calculate how much money you could save living outside New Yawk? I mean, impounded cars, stolen gear, kayak storage ...” 9:35:31 AM 8/04/03 “It's all relative, Geo. I would have to figure on a pay cut working outside NY, so I don't know how much better it would be...” 9:36:52 AM 8/04/03 “And if you leave the yak on the roof, just a matter of time till some crook in a helo takes off with it.” 9:36:57 AM 8/04/03 “you know, none of you are helping me....” 9:42:36 AM 8/04/03 “Hey, I helped you up the stairs!” 9:44:45 AM 8/04/03 “"Right, Maple! Blame NY. I'm sure if you left them out in the open for several hours anywhere else in the US, they would have been there when you got back..." treebeard 09:34:54 AM 08/04/03 According to newgirl, Montana seems pretty safe.” 9:48:53 AM 8/04/03 “Maybe she should have left them in Montana...” 9:51:27 AM 8/04/03 “Put legs on it and pretend it's a coffee table?” 9:57:27 AM 8/04/03 “We're not helping? Hoo hoo ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ! ! ! !” 10:03:11 AM 8/04/03 “Put wheels and a license plate on it and park it out front. Then when you take it to the water, just make sure the roads are all downhill on the way there.” 10:04:03 AM 8/04/03 “Fill the hole with charcol add a grate and you have the newest Weber, urgh...Maple deluxe BBQ gril.” 10:06:34 AM 8/04/03 “not to be cute, but.... you didn't think of this before purchasing???” 10:38:59 AM 8/04/03 What's wrong with your second choice?... “The roof, unless its not permited to store it there, i would just make a good cover for it along with some sort of security device and just store it on the roof.” 10:40:09 AM 8/04/03 “yes, but I kinda didnt think about getting through the front door. I knew where is was going, I thought I had all the bases covered. but I guess I didnt LOL but your cute anyway :)” 10:41:08 AM 8/04/03 “For the benefit of all, the HMS Pottymouth is one sweet-looking yak!” 11:09:18 AM 8/04/03 “nonononono It's Miss Betsy” 11:11:31 AM 8/04/03 “Gee Mapleleaf, in my neighborhood the kids leave their bikes all over the place for hours, days. Where I grew up, they would have been stolen in no time. SOooooo if you want to store that kayak with me, you can. You would have to drive it out this way to use it anyway. Then we can share it. Waddya say? How much does it weigh anyway? Tree/Popeye must be pretty strong to put it on the car roof etc.” 11:12:49 AM 8/04/03 “Miss Betsy is no name for a serious yak. HMS Pottymouth, now there's the name. Paddle Paddle Paddle, Oh no, here come more $^&@ rapids ... $%&*@ it, made it through, now &$^@% paddle paddle paddle $#%&*!!!” 11:13:41 AM 8/04/03 “maple you really didnt expect help from this crew did ya? no large front window you could string a rope from? If your beating it up to get it in and out then you will destroy it fairly quickly if you use it very much. just might be worth a larger storage unit....” 11:41:12 AM 8/04/03 “My canoe & straps have been outside for 30 years & nobody has bothered them. My garden tractor & snowplow too. I did get a shovel "borrowed" that I left at my roadside mailbox but they returned it. I try to lock my shed & house but many people don't. My daughter put up a temp shed on my property until they move into their new house & just put a clamp on the door to hold it shut.” 1:01:31 PM 8/04/03
