I have to go to Chicago for the weekend of 10/25. I'll miss the Alabama/Tennessee game because I'll be taking an exam during the game, grrhhhhhh.

I have only been to Chicago once and it was several years ago. Do any of you midwesterners have any recommendations of things to do. The last time I went to Navy Pier, Shaws Crab House, Buddy Guys Blues Club, Dick's Last Resort, Ed Debevicks, Museum of Science and Industry, and the Feld Aquarium.

Thanks in advance.

I live 30 minutes outside of Chicago. What are you looking at doing in the city? How much time do you have?

We'll have Friday night and Saturday to do about anything. Maybe a good restaurant and a play or concert or something like that. Maybe an off the beaten path type of local club.

WHEN were you last in Chicago? And where/how long will you be staying?

The City has been changing over the past few years.

It seems that you've stayed downtown by the locations you mention. A few things you did not mention are the Field Museum, the Hanncock Observation Deck ($$) where you can get a GREAT view of Chicago [better than the Sears Tower].

If you want there is a walking tour and a couple of bus tours that give you an historical/archectual (sp?) tour of the city. There's even a neat historical/archectual (sp?) boat tour that takes you down the Chicago river.

There are a lot of day-hikes just a few minutes or 90 minutes away.

Can't promise anything because I'm on the job market. And my schedule changes daily.

If you give me more specifics, I can offer more suggestions.

Have a great visit.

It was about 6 years ago that I was there.

We did stay downtown. We were a few blocks from the pier.

We'll have Friday afternoon and evening along with Saturday night in town. We may have Sunday afternoon, but that will depend on the flight.

The things I have in mind to do would be maybe one pretty good restaurant and one that's more moderatley priced, museums(if possible at night), and clubs that have good music in a small setting. Blues or Jazz would be good. I'm really pretty open on ideas. That's one of the great things about TT. You can just hang and idea out there and folks who know an area sometimes come up with something that the outsider would ever think of.

Thanks for the ideas listed above. I'm going to do some net searches and see what bands will be in town that weekend. I literally just found out yesterday that I'm going so I'm still putting ideas together.

Thanks for your help.

If I were going to Chicago, I'd find a club with some live blues.

One source to check out Chicago life is metromix.com It's an entertainment guide produced by The Chicago Tribune. I've found their reviews to be pretty much on target.

Is Kingston Mines still open? It's a great place for blues, or at least it was 15 years ago. The blues musicians show up and form impromptu groups.

Let me think on a moderatley priced restaurant. What kind of food you looking at?

Take stumps advice on Metromix.com.
