Bring sunglasses, for the walk up to Blue Glacier.

Olympic is a huge park, a real treasure.

How many in your party?

First ten miles of the Hoh trail are flat as a pancake and filled with mosquitos, bring DEET! Don't expect to filter water from the Hoh River, sentiment will clog it quicker than you can say Hoh. If you are climbing to the summit, bring rope, protection and be ready to rappel. It isn't easy an easy scramble on the summit rock. And give yourselfs time to summit...5 days to do the entire trip at least.

Sentiment will clog my eyes with tears sometimes.(lol!)

Summiting is for climbers!

When we were at Glacier Meadows a party of six climbers left camp at 2:00 AM, summiting at 10:00 AM.

From the moraine overlooking Blue Glacier we could see them returning from the summit.
They looked like a line of ants from our point of view crossing the glacier.
This was about 4:00 PM.
My son and I scrambled around the moraine with the peaks area like a HUGE amphitheater.
We ventured down onto Blue Glacier without sunglasses.
It was blinding!
We had to cross several snow fields to get up there and boot-skied on the way back down.
The clouds above and around Olympus were constantly changing.

.....but we didn't get a lick of rain in six days.

And watch out for the tsunamis!

Out on Olympic Peninsula there are "Tsunami Evacuation Route" signs.
Yipes!

LOL. Did I write that? I have to stop writing at 7 am. Sediments.

Tsunami = tidal wave.

The view from the summit of Mt. Olympus isn't the best, you won't miss much. Only about 200 make it to the summit each year, me included. The view from the moraine is not bad. Don't be fooled by the name of the camp, "Glacier Meadows." No glacier and no meadows. Just trees. Have to hike up higher to see the meadows & glacier.

Hey trekkngirl!

Glacier Meadows campsite is very nice in amongst huge trees beside a creek.

The walk UP to the moraine is at least 1.5 mile and 1,500 feet elevation.
Go for it!
It is well worth the climb.
Its a bit like climbing stairs.

Maybe we were lucky, but the only place we saw any mosquitoes was at our first campsite, Olympus(#18), about 9 miles up the Hoh River.
The little buggers would alight but not bite.
It was as though they were impotent.
We had bug juice and never used it.
We were there 10-17 August

Tsunami is TIDAL WAVE~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You may see the signs on the drive around Hwy 101.
The signs are round and very cool....I wanted to steal one!

My guess is that you will drive across the north side of the peninsula past Lake Crescent.
The drive along the lake shore is about twenty miles and bee-yoo-ti-ful.

We are taking the Edmonds Ferry to Bremerton and then driving to Port Angeles to get our permit and then on to Sol Duc to drop a car there before we head to the HOH River area. I agree with you that the scenery on the peninsula is outstanding! Crescent Lake is gorgeous!

I drove by Lake Crescent last summer and wanted to take a dip but didn't.
Its like an inland sea.

You will go through Forks, Washington between Sol Duc and Hoh.
You might want to have your "last meal" there before entering that other world.

Are you staying at Hoh Lake CG?
The lake is a tarn, I suppose, like a small caldera.
I took a quick dip there......WOW!
The crapper at Hoh Lake CG sits high above the CG with a spectacular view of Olympus.
Its one of those mulching box things with no cover......great place from which to shoot photos.

We'll definitely be stopping in at Forks to get a last bite to eat. I well remember that Forks is the only town before HOH. Yes, we are staying at HOH Lake. Also at Heart Lake. Looking forward to having a great time out there. The worst part of the trip will be getting from the airport to the ferry and on past Port Angeles. After that part of the trip, it should be smooth sailing! Will post a full trip report after getting back on the 16th.
