Also, I live in NYC - I do not have much stuff. It will all fit into a 10" truck.

Dang, you don't have much. Good luck finding a ten inch truck to rent! The smallest I've seen is 18 inches.

TT-

Won't you need a car when you get out to the NW? There are very few areas of the country where you do not need a vehicle for transportation...at least convenient transportation.

Nope. Will not need a car. Well, at least not at first.

Ski,

Twink's asked a lot of questions about Seattle in the Seattle & UW thread. Basically, living in Seattle proper, the bus system is quite good, and the city (despite constant road construction) is getting more bicycle friendly. So for day to day life, a car is not necessary here. One can live quite easily without one.

Where she will need access to a vehicle would be getting to trailheads and activities out of the city proper, as the further you get into the county or into neighboring counties, the less spectacular the transit system is.

Twinkle Toes,

I think between the "silent" TTers, local clubs, Greyhound etc, you should be able to get to trailheads.

Anybody who doesn't want to help Twinkle Toes get to a trailhead is a fool. ;-)

There are these companies that serve as a middle man for people that want their cars driven cross country and people who want to drive cross country without paying for a rental car. I think all you do is pay for gas. I used a similar service when I was in Germany, and I know of a guy who's done it here in the US as well.

you mind me asking what they quoted you at ABF?

Also if you do go that route...do or watch the following
They charge by the foot..and will rape you if you go over your "alloted" idea...if they get it and measure it...but if you pack and it's 12 feet..call and tell them...you want to stack your stuff tight also..it will shift..use a ladder and stack crap to the roof. Rent the Ramp to load and unload..you must ask for this..and pay at both ends..call early to reserve it!!
Check for holes in the ceiling and top part of the sides...if it has holes..call and have them bring another trailer..they pay 10cents on the dollar for ruined used personal goods. Put a peice of tape on the floor as your goal..it helps
