“the more i think about it, the more i think i will be parking at the grayson highlands overnight area and hiking the AT to old orchard. this means i will most likely take the pine mountain trail saturday. i will meander up to the high point after i spend some time around wilburn ridge on saturday. then hike one of the trails back to massie gap on sunday.

jerbear, if you park at grindstone and hike up to old orchard, i can give you a ride back to your car from massie gap sunday.”

“hoi, same for you. if you want to park at grindstone and hike to old orchard on friday, then take the pine mountain trail (or whatever route you want) to rhododendron gap on saturday, then hike down to massie gap on sunday, i can give you a ride back to your car at grindstone.”

“if your talking about thomas knob shelter the second night, i plan on camping in the trees more near rhododendron gap. you aren't allowed to pitch tents near the thomas knob shelter.”

“cool. I've just seen people talking about both places. Closer to the gap seems like a nicer place to camp anyway.”

“My plans have changed a little. I don't have court on Friday after all, it's Monday so I'll drop my daughter at school Friday morn and keep on trucking. I should arrive and park at the campground around 11 am.I fixin to go finish packing right now!”

“As of now I am thinkin of doin, FRI- the trail from grindstone #57 Lewis fork tie to the AT and then on to old orchard.SAT AT to wherever at the rod gap. Sun-out the Pine mountain trail.
HOWEVER Baumme, I reserve a space in the truck case I change my mind.
Option 2 is greyson highlands to old orchard ect...... yo bear!”

“ewker, I hiked this trail twice. Hope I'll find them :) I don't think it's more then a 18 to 20 mile loop (forgot). When I hiked it from camp a couple of month ago as a dayhike it was only about 17 miles to the highest point and back to camp, but that doesn't count the trail to the parking lot. Yeah, I would hate to hike the complete loop though with my heavy pack.”

“I fuigured that a 45 lb pack is good. extra clothes...heavier sleeping bag, 2 sleeping pads...food for 8 days 2 litres of water, 3/4liters of drambuie...

seams like pretty much all of you start their hike to different times, different locations.

I did not make up my mind yet if I come through the backpacker parking lot or if I park at the grindstone campground.”
