My flight leaves in the morning and I'll be off to Olympic National Park with Pancake Daddy and Trekkingirl for an adventure! We'll be meeting Karen P. at the airport in Seattle. We might get a little rain on the trip since the weather report is calling for 20-30% chance of rain a few of the days we'll be there. Expecting to see some awesome scenery. Will post a full trip report when I return.

Hi country goats
USA - I/m new to the computer, and very new to this sharing format, and have been trying to figure out how to participate. The pic you posted grabbed me. I used to live right outside ONP and hike up to visit the goats in the summer. Great population of elk there as well.

Now I live on right outside the Weminuche Wilderness, in Durango, CO. The favorite destination in the Wem is Chicago Basin, which has a resident population of mountain goats. To get the salt, the goats come down and slurp up the soil where campers have peed. They really tear up the turf, and can be a pain around the camping areas. The wilderness rangers try to get folks to pee on the rocks so the goats can slurp there instead of rootin' up the fragile turf.

The rain forest on the Olympic Peninsua is really a trip. Walkin' around in there, even when it/s not rainin', is like hiking underwater because the way the light diffuses down through all the greenery and "reflects" off the moss. Yummee!

Now I/m livin' in an arid clime, and find myself sometimes missin' the wonderful coast of the Olympic Peninsula, and Vancouver Island. If you haven/t been there, DO IT OR BUST. /BroBob

I live in Seattle now and have made many trips to the Olympic peninsula in the past 16 years. When I was in the Navy I got stationed at the Bremerton shipyard and fell in love with the Olympic peninsula back in the 70's and that's what brought me back. And by coincidence I lived in Durango for about three months before deciding I couln't find a job there and moved to the Springs. If I ever get another chance I would like to live in Durango... very beautiful there.

I camp[ed up at the Lake of the Angles. I think these folks in the pic are camped below the lake near the frog ponds.

If you want info on how to share photos, check on the thread titled "Kauai Hawaii". Directions given there by Buck.

The view from Mt. Deception, second highest mountain in the Olympics. Looking at the Needles, Mt walker I believe. This can be hiked! You can do this. Leave the trail at Deception Creek and follow the creek up along the north side of the creek. This is cross country route finding until you reach the opening below Deception and Mystery. Bears here! From here follow up the meadows (snow when I did it in April several years ago) until you get to the summit. Just one foot in front of the other.
