Marty, Father Goose and I tried that with our Auroras on the Sipsey trip last September. Nothing bizarre happened, we were just trying to signal some late arrivers.

I know that tinfoil hat link is here Somewhere.... LOL

Thanks for idea, Q.

Campmor used to sell plain closed-cell pads (1/2-inch thick?) for like $10, but I didn't see them last couple of times I looked. I did a search on the 'Net and all it turned up were giant rolls of the stuff.

Don't anybody tell Aero about those Photon Rave-n lights -- he'll flip out for sure! And Do Not put an alarm clock wrapped in tinfoil in the microwave or you WILL go back in time, LOL

How could forget.
OH...and I just got my first Nalgen bottle and some of those funny looking clown shoes.

I'm slowly getting gear.

Purchased MSR Pocket Rocket stove, my first step in dropping weight. My bag and tent are next, but the baby on the way has put a damper on my spending.

Also replaced my water bottles with Nalgene bottles, dropped everything but one pot and a metal cup and ditched most of the extra clothes I was carrying.

Got a new pair of Montrail Torre's this spring and I've been breaking them in this summer.

Mostly been working out, riding the bike, and hiking this summer to stay in shape. I've slowly but surely been losing a beer gut that got in the way a lot last year.

Well I did SYAO in the Adirondacks this past weekend. It was a good warm up for my Northville-Placid Trail hike coming up at the end of the month. I’m doing the 122mi trial in 9 days starting Labor Day weekend. Should be a blast. I can’t wait to get out of the office and hit the ADK’s.

IJ, how are the Torres' working out, do they feel heavy? Also, did you get the goretex ones?

In preparation for our big trip at the end of the month I have been trying to whittle away at the weight and bulk of a few things I can't do without.
I've bought a new Big Agnes bag and sleeping pad. The bag is considerably lighter than my TNF Marietta, pad is about the same weight as the thermarest 3/4 ultralight I've been using BUT it's 2 1/2 inches thick and full length! Also got a pair of waldies for camp shoes/water shoes. So long 1 1/2 lb tevas.

Have been trying out some new luch foods too. Found some awesome dried beef at Meijers. Roll it up on a tortilla with arby's sauce and it's fantastic. Full of salt but I like salt. Also tried Fantastic foods organic powdered hummus. It's great, ( or at least it will be on the trail...homemade is better).

I've been giving alot of thought to what I can take out of the pack, and still be comfortable.

Stickman, Torre's feel heavy compared to the canvas and leather hikers I was making do with before, but really aren't bad at all. I never notice my feet feeling heavy.

I didn't go with the goretex. My feet sweat really bad, so I went non goretex and seal them with NuBuck and Suede.

As I've said on this site before, the only moisture I've had inside is from my own sweat, even hiking in rain and slushy snow.

I'm pretty happy with them so far. The next test will be how they wear over time.

Are Aero and MartyB going to be burning KC and the Sunshine Band records on their upcoming trip while dancing around the fire with strobe lights?

I've been working on my navigation skills and trying to perfect my LNT fire-building habits. I bought some Titanium stuff, but that's about it.

Great thread!

BTW - mtnsteve slower.... no friggin' way!

I bought some of those Waldies that Binks is selling and he gave me one of his backpacking deals nalgene bottles. I had to replace my trekking poles a while back. They don't work real well after you back over them in your car :(

I have a trip the end of this month, one in Oct and one in Nov. I guess I need one in Sept. I have done a couple of get away from it all trips the past month. I expect I will have a few more coming up soon.

I don't think that's in the manufacturer's list of recommended uses for their product Ewker.

Ewk, Geo: using a product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling can sometimes be a Fedral Offense. You want Ashcroft ringin' your doorbell?

Not This cowboy.

With changing jobs, I will have very little time off by then. Sounds like fun. I'd have to get back with the training program.
