Let me see if I understand this (California voters feel free to set me straight):

Gray Davis was just re-elected with a slim majority.

Less than a majority of California voters have petitioned to recall him.

In a runoff election, it is possible they could recall him and elect a new governor with as little as 15-20% of the vote.

How is this person with a half-a$$ed plurality going to govern that state?

Californians could spend the next decade or two conducting non-stop recalls.

It's California, if you have ever been there...you will understand.

They are a seperate country, a different world...big changes I remember from the 50s when I was there, then the 60s happened and what a change a decade can make.

Yeah Geo, this crap could turn something like Palestine/Israel only without the suicide bombers.

Watch it Tom, they'll probably see that and start a statewide referendum to legalize suicide bombers during recall drives.

If King George had used California as evidence that democracy would not work, we'd still be British.

Geo...

1) Grey Doofus lied about the budget prior during the last election.

2) Six million voters, allthough not a "majority" of the state, is enough to recall him.

3) Even someone with "half a$$" anything is better than more lies and more taxpayer money to cover lies.

4) Dont be fooled...even the Democratic party is drooling over his recall. Example: Want to run for governor? Whats your election budget? 80 million...try 8 million during the recall.

He's not automatically recalled. There will be a vote to keep him or not, which he's probably going to lose. The recall law is on the books from the 1920's when the railroads had a Gov in their pocket. Davis needs to go, the only reason he was re-elected was that he ran negative ads against Riordan before the GOP Primary. It's dispicable that Democrats/Republicans can't vote in the other parties primary but the incumbent can snipe that the candidate he wants to lose so that he can face the less attractive candidate in the election.

This election law is fundamentally unfair. I don't get that you could have 49% of the population vote to keep Gray Davis and then have 20% of the population pick the next governor. Davis should be allowed to have his name placed on the ballot.

I am hoping that the courts strike this law down because this whole thing is a joke.

this recall may be bad but it's the law there. it's not like people are making this up. it has been tried thirty-something times. it's a mechanism for the people to fire a govenor who is doing a bad job. this guy davis has almost NO support...other than barbera streisand....

Stratdewd!

I understand why a recall law is on the books. We have one in Michigan. I have no problems with that.

I am just surprised that the original initiative ever got on the ballot. It seems so haphazard to me that you won't get a result that is a true reflection of public sentiment.

I mean, you could have twice the support for Gray over the "winner" in the simultaneous run-off.

And it took such a small minority of California voters to put this recall on the ballot, that I'd be concerned about disenfranchising all the votes cast for Davis last fall. Opinions may have shifted a bit since, but those voters supported him for a four year term.

A responsible election commission or state court system would have forced that original law back to the drawing board.

someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i think Davis' name WILL be on the ballot. it's not 100% guaranteed that he will lose his office.

The first item on the ballot is to vote on whether or not to recall the Governor. If the majority of the vote is "No", then Davis retains his Governorship. If the majority of the vote is "Yes", then Davis fades into the annals of history.

The second part of the ballot is to vote for a new Governor. Even if you had voted "No" on the first part, you can still select a candidate on the second part. Davis will not be on the second part.

If 51% don't like him..He's gone. Thats fair. If you go by your thinking. If a minority can still want him in (49%) then why isn't it okay for a minority to elect better (20%)?...btw...ANYTHING is better. He has sold us out to the highest bidders

CA lawmakers propose lowering voting age to 14

California lawmakers propose lowering voting age to 14 for state elections

State Sen. John Vasconcellos wasn't IDed as a Democrat for some reason. Was he not the one that wanted to give CA back to Mexico a while back? ;-)

When you lower the voting age to 14, then 14 year olds will be considered adults. This attempt to lower the voting age is being done so that NAMBLA members will also have the right to marry.
Savage

Age 14-15 = 1/4 vote
Age 16-17 = 1/2 vote
NAMBLA argument doesnt seem to pan out. Dems are looking for a swing vote. Most kids that age have Liberal points of view because they naturally have a rebellious attitute toward authority. Its a Democratic scam.

This is a new era. We don't need this law. We just need to get the 9th Circuit Court to grant 14 year olds equal access under the 14th Amendment. Then get the Supreme Court to back them up. No need to go to the voters any more (what do we know??)

I wouldn't be surprised if this is not a litmus test to see what the reaction is. "California...the litmus test state" (has a ring to it!!).
