I was playing golf the other day in a rainstorm and as I stood under my umbrella waiting to tee off, someone in my group exclaimed that this weather really blows, which got me thinking. Why do we associate the term "blows" with something negative? Shouldn't the term "blows" denote something positive like rainbows, puppies, or unicorns? It should be a festive word conveying a positive response and not the negative one we currently use. Discuss.

I think "blows" is generally used in the context of Wayne's World as in, "....he blows goats, I have proof"

And quite often the term, "sucks", usually means, "sucks $h!t".......or eggs

Jerry Sienfield has a bit he does about how “sucks” and “doesn’t suck” are not that far apart. He said, “In fact they are interchangeable. Say you’re walking down the street with an ice cream cone and the ice cream falls off. What do we say? We look down and say, ‘GREAT!’.”
