Monarch Pass, Colorado 11,000+ feet.

I didn't use climbing gear.

I was motoring east on Route 50 on a Yamaha 650 twin in August '80.

10,288 ft. I was bicycling to Salt Lake from Akron, Ohio back in '90 and pedaled up Cameroon Pass in Colorado. It was in June and it actually snowed on me as I neared the summit! Wild experience!

Skyscraper Peak in Mount Rainier National Park......7,065ft/2153m.....an easy scramble from Skyscraper Pass on the Wonderland Trail.

I actually got off the motorsickle and walked around and took a leak at Monarch Pass.

Backpacking??? What about 3925 ft. We hiked up Sugar Run Mountain in Virginia's Appalachian Mountains on the AT. When we hit the rockoutcroppings we were at 3925 ft. above sea level. Looking below we could see the New River Valley and the surrounding mountain ridges. I have some photos of this on my yahoo pictures!

You didnt use an ax or crampons on Shasta?
mtnsteve
9:02:20 AM
8/08/03

Mtnsteve, yes I did, sort of depends on what you call climbing gear.

Did not use rope, harness, nuts/cams/hex's/ice screws.
I do climb as well.

Do boots count as 'gear' ? snowshoes,?

On every hike I have had pack, tent, stove, sleeping bag etc; all 'gear'. Is an internal frame pack with a chest strap 'gear'?, or a white gas stove instead of simpler alcohol or butane?

Many of the ones listed above required use of hands in some places, but none required climbing skills as in rock/ice/ or even gym climbing.

Semantics I suppose.

Most climbers do consider an ice ax and crampons as "climbing gear", but not boots or snowshoes.

Nice cross section of peaks, good well rounded climbs. Congratulations.

Mtnsteve,

Axe and crampons used on Shasta, Ruapehu, Adams(NH) and Colden (NY).

Arapaho, Helvellyn, and Dhauligiri kick step in snow, no axe or crampons.

Helvellyn was by far the worst weather, we were met by the Patterdale Mountain recue team as we exited. They were just starting out to go look for us.
