Need some advice...
I'll be passing through Hot Springs this Fall on a week long hike. I've never been there and need recommendations on where to stay that will hold a mail drop. I'd prefer a motel/hotel in town. Anyone out there recommend a particular place ??

Stay at "Elmer's" Sunnybank Inn. An old Victorian house. $15.00 per night. He serves vegetarian meals also. He holds packages. 828-622-7206.

The $15 / night at Elmer's is the thruhiker rate - does that still apply for section hiker's Lone Wolf?

other possibilities (this is from a 2001 handbook so some may not still be in business):

Duckett House Inn, 828-622-7671
The Hiker Hostel, 828-622-7550
Alpine Court Motel, 828-622-3231
Bridge Street Inn, 828-622-0002
Creekside Lodging, check-in at Blue Ridge Rafting ofc.

Thanks everyone!

I'm looking for someone that has ACTUALLY stayed in Hot Springs and would recommend a place.

Oh, and I'll be passing though in late Oct or early Nov so I need a place that will be OPEN. hahaha

8-)

I stayed at Elmer's 15 years in a row. 3-5 nights each time. Nice place.

Cottonsocks and I are taking a trip to the Hot Springs area this weekend. A Saturday mechanized hike up through Newport and over to Hot Springs. I think we will loop back down through Maggie Valley to Cherokee and back to Townsend.

She hasn't seen much of that area and we plan on a back road cruise, taking our time and stopping whenever we decide to stretch our legs.

The Paddlers Pub in Hot Springs is open and the beer is cold.

We came back through there on our way home from Jonesborough on Saturday. It was a great day for a "mechanized" hike.

My favorite town and pub on the whole damn trail. I'll never forget watching the final four in there last year, with N.C. in it. Peak experience for a basketball junkie. Ask them to tell you the story of how they got their beer license.

I'll do it. Cottonsox and I will be car camping over there pretty often. Next trip will probably be to TrailFest.
