Hey Treebeard!..
Supposedly I'm too old to like the music I like. Or at least that's what I got told today. We were gonna ask this guy at work a question, but he was so busy listening to music thru his headphones, that he could not even hear his phone ringing. We laughed.

Sherrus says, "he's got that AC-DC cranked up. He can't even hear his phone ring."

I'm laughing. "He likes AC-DC? For real? Wow, I never would have thought he was the type."

Sherrus looks over at me and says, "well it's better than that Porter Wagoner stuff you probably listen to."

I'm shocked. "Porter Wagoner? Not hardly. I had NIN cranked up this morning on the way to work."

Now Sherrus is shocked. "Nine Inch Nails? No way. How old are you again?"

I tell her I'm going to be fifty this year in July. Sherrus says, "I'm sorry, that's just so wrong on so many levels."

I express my discontent, and playfully tell Sherrus that she just hurt my feelings. Sherrus laughs, and says "Sorry I don't mean to. It's just I listen to NIN, ADCD, Metallica and many other heavier metal I like the new and the old.....Seather is on of my current favs. But I listen to alot of different music from contemp Christian to country to heavy metal I don't get stuck in a genera I listen to it for the music factor if I like it then I listen to it. I guess it's as strange as me and my 14 year old being into some of the same music. You just don't strike me as a NIN fan so much. So do you like Marilyn Manson as well?"

I guess I'm going to have to go out and buy some Barry Manilow CDs.

As for the young whippersnappers and their opinions of us old farts:

PPFFFFTTTTTTTT!!!!

HA! Take that...

NIN are ok. Haven'yt exposed myself to enough of it have really gotten into them. Don't run away when I hear 'em either.

My daughter loves MM. I think his band is pretty good and I like a lot of his stuff. Pretty wild act, too! :)

Now, AC/DC? Yeah, I still rok out to that band! That's some fun rock and roll!

My favorite bands would make MOST conservative do-gooders wince in fright..

My favorite band up until recently was slipknot.. I'm not sure who it is right now.. Jordan is trying to get me interested in Something Corporate and Sugarcult..

but Ryan Adams just put out a new CD..

Yo Dayhiker... you know what's weird.. is that a LOT of people don't know that Hurt (Johnny Cash of course).. was written by Trent Reznor.

From-->http://www.stagepassnews.com/articles/vox/johnnycash_hurt.html
If someone would have told me that Johnny Cash listened to a 'Nine Inch Nail' song let alone cover one, I would have thought this person was one fry short of a happy meal.

Johnny Cash, the living legend and icon of country music for almost 50 years worked absolute magic on the Trent Reznor song 'Hurt'. I for one was completely blown away, and I'm not really all that much a country music buff. There is something about the delivery that was as unnerving as it was powerful coming from this man. Probably the most moving video I've ever seen, bar none. It's one thing hearing this song and it's anguished lyrics coming from a young rock star and quite another coming from Cash who walked the line of hard knocks.. ol skool. There was an honesty in the visual and Johnny's deep soulful voice that made you feel he was living each and every word. It was as if Trent Reznor unconsciously wrote it for Mr. Cash.

TownDawg, not all conservatives are moral conservatives. Some us are just greedy bastards that want you to go get yours teh same way we did. Steal it.

I dig music that makes my head near explode. I listen to hard rock, satan-lovin staple-faced bands, country music, speed rock, 80's hair bands, 70's guitar bands, 60 peacenic damn-the-man songs, 50's happy days songs.

I agree Johnny Cash did an amazing job with "hurt".

I personaly think it is nice when older people like types of music that no one would expect them to.

I once went to a Korn concert and there was a lady in her 40s, While we waited for the show to start she was "policing" the aisles telling kids they cant do this or that, its not allowed. I really thought she was someones mom and was curious if she had any idea what she got her self into. right before the show started another lady in her 40s came and sat beside her....No kids anywhere. The moment Korn came out and the music bursted through the bulding they were jumping, screaming, singing all the words, head banging. I was kinda shocked but I also thought it was very cool. I was around 22 at the time.

So Rock on TD!!

For Hyway..
Why do they always send the poor?
My God is of Bible blood with pointed ears
Victorious, victorious steel
Can your spending kneel?
Marching forward hypocritic
And hypnotic computers
You depend on our protection

Yet you feed us lies from the tablecloth
La la la la la la la la la la
Everybody is going to the party
Have a real good time
Dancing in the desert
Blowing up the sunshine

Kneeling roses
Disappearing into Moses' dry mouth
Breaking into Fort Knox
Stealing our intentions
Every city, gripped in oil
Crying freedom!

Handed to obsoletion
Still you feed us lies from the tablecloth
la la la la la la la la la la
Everybody is going to the party
Have a real good time
Dancing in the desert
Blowing up the sunshine
Everybody is going to the party
Have a real good time
Dancing in the desert

Blast off, it's party time
And we all live in a fascist nation
Blast off, it's party time
And where the #&%!$ are you?
Where the #&%!$ are you?
Where the #&%!$ are you?

Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why don't presidents fight the war?

Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?

Hehe I wasnt calling TD an "older person" in a bad way, but seriously He is old enough to be my dad! Im only 26. I think it is awesome that TD is into music like he is. I can only hope that I stay in touch with music like he has as I grow older. I envy you!

As long as i dont fall prey to the country scene then i will be happy with myself LOL.
I like pretty much anything except for country and certian types of rap/hip hop.

What's hilarious is that Sunday night I played at Sweetwater -- a DIVE of a "honky tonk" in Nashville -- playing wiff my SON's band..

and Saturday the day before, (the picture of us in the park) we are playing Contemporary Christian.

Here's what I wrote him on the Sweetwater gig: "Last night was incredible. How fitting to play the last show in the same place that you played your first show. Sweetwater may be a “honky tonk” dive, but it has a lot of history. Practically everyone who has ever made it big in Nashville played in that venue at one time or another. I am humbled to have played there not once, but actually twice. It was a rocking show! I pity anyone who didn’t go last night, and has to suffer through all the people going crazy over how good it was. Jeff was absolutely incredible on guitar, and you were over the top on your vocals. Hiatt and I just tried to hang it all together. Ah, the memories. Chris, that was some of the most passion and spirit I’ve ever heard from the fire.

Especially good to see your friends come out and hear us play. Give my thanks to the guys in the back screaming out requests. Give my thanks also to the guys in front who convinced the girls to give lap dances. Even give my thanks to whomever it was that spent most of the night in the bathroom puking his guts out. My friend Bryan told me that he had no idea how good we were. I think that goes for several folks. I can remember begging people to come see us. It sucks to be them, because no one could have possible imagined how tight, and loud, and good we would have been last night.

I know Hiatt is working on a CD mix of the band from several of our shows. I also know that several people will buy it, but please also know that no CD will ever replicate the images and sounds over the past several months. Yes, we had talked about getting some t-shirts for the last time we played. I’m sure the logo would have been funny -- some guys standing around pissing on a fire. I’m glad we didn’t do it, and I’m going to tell you why. It may have been our last show, but the fire will never go out. Thank you for the chance to share it with all of you."

So how long did it take you to get home from work the other day? I saw where that embankment caved in on the road and screwed up the whole city. I was thinking’ of you guys hoping you weren’t stuck in it. I saw one guy get interviewed and he said, “I was sitting in traffic for 2 hours. Sitting still. So I call my wife to tell her I’d be late and a cop pulls me out of line and onto a side street and gives me a $90 for using my cell phone. How’s your day going?”

Hey, Nig! I was out of work Friday. went to the doctor for a sore throat and the old 50 year prostate screening. So, I wasn't in Manhattan all day. That probably wouldn't have affected my commute as it happened up by the George Washington Bridge. Now, for those who travel to NE New Jersey, it was an absolute nightmare. The George had 1 to 2 hour delays on it. They were crawling. Amazingly enough, no one got hurt, although a few cars were made into compacts!

"and the old 50 year prostate screening."

I think some of the people stuck would have traded places with you in a heartbeat. There's little difference really. the person stuck in traffic uses their thumb and the doc uses his index (actually index and middle if ya slip 'em a fiver).

Hey Tree, I just had somebody from Arbitron, Armitron, ?? call me wanting me to do a survey for them about radio stations and my listening habits. I didn't know if I was getting shucked and jived but I agreed to do it and they are sending me a booklet to keep track of my radio listening habits for 2 weeks. I figure it'll at leaste give me a chance to tell someone how much Clear Channel sucks donkey balls.

You may like the idea of putting automation in your programming, but i like the personal touch of a local disc jockey. (Yes, of course I have a little bias in this). Also, if you enjoy making the programming syndicated, more and more homogenous every day and repitition that leaves any artistic integrity out of the programming, then Clear Channel is CLEARLY for you!
Treebeard
10:29:03 AM
6/08/05

The Clear Channel station I listen to is not programmed, and the shows I listen to are not syndicated.

But yes, the do have that type of programming in their diverse portfolio.

I suppose if you're against diversity (or the rights of citizens to make radio stations how they want because of their profitability), Clear Channel is CLEARLY not for you.

My radio has a neat little invention on it. It's called an on/off switch. Maybe you could look into getting one. They're really not that expensive.

Nope, not true Sarge. I definately think CC sucks. NPR all the way for me, the only station that plays anything different in our area. WDET, 101.9, Detroit has web streaming if anyone's interested. They absolutely rock my radio world (unlike any other station in our area).

I think that discussing this on a national level isn't fair.

CC has a diverse range of stations in my area, and I think one in particular is a great station.

Sarge, CC has proposed the elimination of DJ's in it's programming. They syndicate lots of shows. They own over 1200 stations and have taken almost all of the creativity out of radio. I have a right to voice my opinion. I have worked on and off in this business for over 20 years. WTF is with people like you anyway? Say one word about an entity and you get your balls in an uproar. Tuff sh_t, Sarge. CC is my only outlet in NYC for classic rock anymore, because the less wealthy stations can't keep up with them. So, I don't like the nature of the business anymore. You don't like what I say? Go to another thread and imagine it's an on/off switch. Sorry if I insulted another arrogant, high and mighty American conglomerate!
