Tree, have you listened to the Herbie Hancock album Possibilities. I have heard a few cuts from it. It has quite a few singers on it like Sting, Damien Rice, John Mayer, Christina Aguilera (she does an awesome job on A Song for You), Annie Lenox, Paul Simon and a others. Funny this album is put out by Hear Music..the music of Starbucks”

College radio is better than most commercial crap and I listen to www.homegrownradionj.com when I can at work.

WTMD 89.7(here) is pretty good.
They are putting out an album this winter of live, in-studio artists who have visited.
Mike Doty, one of my favorites, will be featured on that album doing an acoustic version of "Bustin' Up A Starbucks".
Doty was here on a Friday afternoon last month before a Friday night show at a music venue in Towson.
We have our own "Fillmore East" called the Recher Theater.
It is an old family-owned movie house in our little downtown.
The Recher brothers took it over from their family and removed the seats.
Bands like Cowboy Junkies and Dick Dale have played there.”

Is this some type of new way to transmit FM signals or is it just the same with more wattage? It does seem clear this is in response to the increase in sat radio.”

“Good question! The way I see it (and I am not yet all that well versed with the new technology of HD in radio), is that you are right about it being in the transmission. The fact is, and this is true of televising HD also, that if you are not equipped with a receiving device that is also HD, then you are simply seeing the same thing that you would without the HD. Hope that made sense...

Frankly, so far, I see the differences as rather subtle. I think there's more hype to it at this point. So, I would be cautious about throwing a lot of money into it. I would research it more thoroughly first (something I need to do to keep up with questions like this, lol) before spending a lot.”

“That's what I figured. I don't have a HD radio nor do I see myself getting one. I couldn't tell a difference but then again I live about 30-40 miles from Dayton which has the bulk of the radio stations so my reception isn't the greatest anyhow. Besides, Clear Channel stations in HD would sound just as bad. And CC stations are all we have. LOL!”

“True. CC in NYC are now boasting the "BROADCASTING IN HD" thing. They can broadcast from my freakin' living room and it would still sound the same in my car. It's a factory installed radio and always will be, no mater what's on the other end...”

“Another New York (brooklyn, I think) band I found lately is called Bayside. Great live show and good sound. Their drummer was killed back on Halloween while traveling to Salt Lake from Denver though. I saw them on his last show. Tragic.”
