several cities - i'm sitting in my nyc office building and getting this news and all i can think of is 9-11

“Well I haven't lost power, but my husband who works 20 minutes west of me on I 80 lost power at work. The inlaws in the Poconos have power. Parts of NYC are getting power back. Was pretty bizarre how widespread it was, but after hearing all the whining about how hard it was to get electricity back up in Iraq, it didn't surprise me that we have an interconnected grid system as well. Kinda neat that they are already restoring power to some areas. The mob of millions waiting to get on the ferries was pretty frightening on the news. People walking across the bridges. Just like on 9/11. Brought back some really bad memories. I hope the Tree people and Twinks get home safely.”

“Twinks, 2 years ago our entire county plus parts of 2 others went down for 17 hours because 1) a bad switch and 2) a tree fell in just the right spot to bring it all down.”

“We finally got fuel for the generater here in suburban Detroit. We traded our neighbor a line for his fridge for some gas he siphoned fromm his explorer. For some reason we couldn't get the fuel outta our cherokees.

It was freakin' scarey around here this afternoon. EVERYONE left work at exactly the same moment, traffic was backed up everywhere. It was creapy.

We spent the afternoon and evening trying to get ahold of family, make sure they made it home okay and visiting with the neighbors outside. Funny how a power outage will always bring a neighborhood together.

The local electric company has announced it will be at least all weekend before power's up and running. We'll be going on a road trip tomorrow to try and find a gas station with a generater going.

Some cities don't have water either. Our pressure is way down. It doesn't worry me too much because we have our first need and a 110 gallon lilly pond, but alot of folks weren't ready and only have their water heater tanks. Area business' have been told to stay closed until power's back up.

I hope we don't have to work tomorrow, could be an adventure getting there.”
