New to thebackpacker.com

“Hi there!
I am from Annapolis, MD (actually just moved 7 mile north) and saw this trip to Maine.
I am not sure how the mechanics of all this works. It seems that you know each other. How do you decide that you can go on a trip with someone (as cool as they must be) without knowing them first? I want to do Maine and this sounds like a grest opportunity...I am just concerned since it would take some effort from my part in terms of airfare and hotel..just to get there.
Any advice will be more than welcome.

I prob. know at least half of the others going on that trip and you will have a great time, if you can make it.

Thanks for the responses so far. One of these days, I am going to sit down a write my own "portrait”, so that people get an idea of who I am.
In the meantime, I just started backpacking...actually after getting all the cool gear..I couldn't wait for a planned trip with my friends and went to Shenandoah Nat'l St Park by myself. I ended up rushing to get to camp on a trail not labeled on the map, it took a while to fine a "flat" spot for my tent, a bear came to camp (that kept me up)...overall it was fun..But I carried too stuff. It was all fun, though.
