Google your phone #

“This is not a hoax; Mapquest will actually put a star on your house
on your street. In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to Google and type your phone number in the search bar with dashes (i.e. 555-555-1212)and hit enter. NOTE: If your phone number is not publicly listed, you should be fine.

Anyone else a little concerned about this?”

“AT&T has had reverse lookup for a couple of years at least. Does the same thing.”

This is nothing new.

If you're concerned about it and don't want to spend the money for an unlisted number, have the phone company put the directory listing in a different name. They will do this, but you may have to get past the first-level drones.

Have fun with this, try something like Fred Flintstone, Barney Fife, Snow White, etc.”

“That suggestion will work surprisingly well. After I married, my wife and I kept our phone number under her deceased mother's name, because the phone company wanted $40 to change the listing. No one can find you, and when they ask for the wrong person, you know that it's probably a sales call.”

That's the way it is at "my" house. The house is my wife's grandmother's and the phone is still in her name. She is alive, but due to heath reasons, doesn't live there anymore.”

“google will block your number, you just have to request it. I've done so and my number is no longer "searchable" using google.”
