Re: Block Thickness
Some of the blocks I placed at the top of the igloo at Silver Snag were about 6 in. thick. Generally, the snow in the Sierra doesn't pack densely enough to make 6 in. blocks practical. They fracture too easily at 9 in. thk. I suspect the author was working in material on it's way to becoming ice.

Trash? Sorry to hear that we may have left stuff. I went around with a trash bag and asked around just before we left, but only got one small bit of celophane. Maybe we were snow blind.

Please, not to worry
It happened when the Tipi blew down, there was stuff left in it from partying that night. When we packed up to leave, we threw stuff into garbage bags and buried them so we could come back later and get it. The tent, stove, some food, pots, things like that....I forgot that we also threw the trash in a couple bags.

I just hadn't realized how much we had.

wannabp, ditto! I was going to feel so bad about leaving trash around because I looked around a well and the only thing that looked terrible was my frozen diet coke on the snow. But I knew that would just melt away.

mtnsteve, great pics! I liked how the snow turned out in the shots. I thought if we were all there together, we would have for sure been able to set up a complete bar with all that booze.

mtnsteve, boy that guy with the igloo sure needs a lesson in spelling, doesn't he? :) why do you think he makes a platform to put the igloo on?

Just a quick note on the Ranger with the attitude.....

I saw him when we were leaving after our 10 day, he called me Sir, asked me to come and sit inside where it was warm and basically kissed my butt so much I still feel embarrassed.

But I liked it.
