Hey guys and gals
Heard you have lots of new fires your way. Just wondering if everyone is OK. Haven't been on in awhile so I wouldn't know if you've been posting.

Are the fires anwhere close to you? News this morning said some evacuated around Missoula. That's where I spent some time last summer.

Yep, John lots and lots of fires. Twenty-six around the state. I'm not sure, but I think the nearest one to Billings was in Big Timber. On Sat. night the wind blew pretty good out of the W and Sun morning the smoke was really thick in the city. Smelled just like a camp fire, makes your eyes feel yucky, not healthy to breath. But, such is MT in fire season, evacuation and all. It was so bad 2 yrs. ago that you were almost guaranteed a thin layer of ash of your car in the AM, esp over near Missoula. Aero prolly knows alot more about what is going down. I could also take ask friends that are living in Missoula what's up over there, if you want to know more.

John, friends say that the fires over there are burning very fast and very hot. I found another good resource. Go to billingsgazette.com and click on local/state and then on fire roundup, it'll give you the latest on all the fires . . . including acerage and suppression costs. Interesting.

Here's a link to the Billings paper for all our fires.
We're a ways away fro any fires here, but our cabin up in the Beartooths is always at risk of going up!

One of the fires covered 3 miles in 15 minutes the other day! That's as fast as a good distance runner could cover under ideal conditions- like on a track! There would be no way you could get out of the way of that one in timber and mountains!!

Thanks for the links. I realize fire is a natural occurance and is somewhat innevitable, especially during dry spells, but it still breaks my heart to see such beautiful forests going up in smoke. When they burn to the ground it can take soo long for them to regrow.

My heart goes out to everyone that lives in those areas affected.

Glad you guys are safe.
