3 Day Hikes in Sequoa National Park
Does anyone out there have any suggestions for a 3 day hike in Sequoa National Park (towards the south end)? We're thinking 20 to 30 miles.
Has anyone been to the Kern Valley? What's that area like?
Thanks!

Stay away from the Mexican drug cartel's hidden maryjane fields if you want to live. I'm assuming it's getting close to harvest time so they are probably a little on edge. Sequoa has a serious problem with this and several park rangers have been killed in recent years.

There are some nice hikes out of Mineral King that would work. Some of them are loop hikes.

You could look at the Harrison Sequoia-Kings Canyon map and get a pretty good look at what is available.

Hard to beat Mineral King! :)
Numerous lakes to choose from.
The road ends in a bowl at 7,800' with several trail head options...all of them UP^ LOL!

Mineral King is the southern most portion of Sequoia National Park and is teeming with wildlife....I counted 17 deer on recent day hike up there.

The Kern Canyon is a very good early season destination...it's pretty low for the most part...so it's hot, dry and snakey this time of year. Might be different further north near Junction Meadow haven't been in that area before.

Try This...

Thanks for the advice! We've looked into Mineral King and it looks perfect for our little 3 day excursion. Any particular trail that you'd recommend? how's the drive to the Ranger Station?
We'll have to check out Alta Peak one of these days too. Need more vacation days!

The drive ....well.......
Slow with lots of curves. ;)
Road is narrow and long, turns to dirt road a couple of times, but not for too long. It's about an hour from Three Rivers to the end of the road.

Take a look at Franklin Pass you could do an out and back to Little Claire Lake and hike up to Amphitheater Lake on your layover day. Or if you're feeling really agressive...Loop from Franklin over to Sawtooth via Soda Creek and Lost Canyon. My Harrison map says it's 31.1 miles. Three pretty tough days...but WOW!

We ended up hiking to Franklin Lake and camping there overnight. The plan was to walk to Little Claire Lake and back the next day but it looked like it was gonna rain so we walked back instead. It was my first backpacking, camping, hiking trip. I had a GREAT time and it was beautiful up there! Saw some deer and a bunch of marmot. Thanks for all the advice! :)
