Hey Mutt...
you're so righteous...and the rest of us are peons. we grovel and bow to your greatness and stand in awe of your aura. Your are the truest and most magnanomous backpacker that ever lived and your heart is so large and enveloping that the rest of us are diminished in your presence. you make the outdoors shine with your inner light...the waters part before you on the trail. The part you play in the universe, is without peer, and there is no question that YOU ARE THE MOST WONDERFUL PERSON ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH...

Why thank you stikmon - for showing me I touched a nerve. I practice LNT, and I clean up after others, this is true. You, on the other hand, leave fire-rings with more ash and charcoal (and probably half-burned cans of food and beer) than when you find them.

The problem isn't your hiking technique, Mutt. The problem is that you're an apparent jerk who can only get satisfaction from attempting to make others feel small.

At least from what I've seen. The totality of your jerkness may be even more apparent in person for all I know.

You'll have to consult the "Jerk-O-Meter" to know for sure. Coincidentally, there is one up for bid on E-Bay.

Apparent jerk? Please Phaedrus, give the man his due! There's no apparent to it! He works hard at it and deserves credit for being what he is.

Well I know I've made you and violin feel like intellectual midgets, if that's what you mean. But I honestly get pissed off when see fire rings in the forest and on sandbars. Just a pet peave.

Yet another thing you "know" that is false.

So, you have a pet peave and decide to take it out of Stickmon? You also have a christianity pet peeve, right?

I'd say your posts as evidence speak poorly of your ability to relate to others.

I was sitting here wondering just how Mutt would be to hike with on the trail.

Then it dawned on me he doesn't use trails.

Oh well, maybe he will join the Sipsey bushwacking trip.

So, you have a pet peave and decide to take it out on Stickmon?

Phaedrus, the trip photos of his recent float on the Buffalo River showed them burning a butt-load of wood in a fire ring. That's why I jumped on him. I enjoy floating too, and see too many fire rings.
Mutt

I also make campfires when there's a fire ring available. I'm happy to hear it bothers you.
Phaedrus

You have a misconception on what LNT actually teaches regarding fire rings.

Minimize Campfire Impacts
Campfires can cause lasting impacts to the backcountry.

Use a lightweight stove for cooking and enjoy a candle lantern for light.

Where fires are permitted, use established fire rings, fire pans, or mound fires.

Keep fires small. Only use sticks from the ground that can be broken by hand.

Burn all wood and coals to ash, put out campfires completely, then scatter cool ashes.

I do have to conceed a point to Mutt though.

Most people simply use the fire ring and never clear out the ashes and let the ring build up due to continued use until it is three feet high.

You have to have a fire. The hotter the better. If you don't have a fire, you can't burn your trash and instead have to bury all of it, even the paper and foil wrappers (which you could burn if you had a fire). Isn't it better to burn as much of your trash as possible instead of burying all of it?

I know I’ll sound like a brown noser here but Mutt is one of my faves here. Even if he doesn’t agree with me he always makes me stop and think. Moreover he doesn’t have to cut and paste bullcrap from obscure sources in order to make his point. Is Mutt challenging? Hell yeah. But he is barely bad enough to tell him to go jerk off. There are regulars here that are far, far more self righteous and indignant than Mutt.

oh, and I went to the lnt site...but I got the "lick naked titties" website. not very appropriate at work...thanks alot.

and mutt...When your on the river, I will make sure that Khatru comes on over and pees and poops on your tent and in your camp site.

I will have you know, that...oh heck never mind...those that I have gone camping with, know the type of person that I am. you dont' so you don't get to vote on it and your opinion is irrelovent. When you do decide to go camping with me, then and only then do you get to criticize, till then...

gosh I hate to admit it
I have found myself agreeing with Mutt's political and religous postures way to often to not agree with Nigal

And for that matter . ..it isn't whether i agree with him or not . .he is a heck of a lot more well read, more logical and a better arguer than most here, myself including.

He is, at the least, entertaining, at the most . . .he's got a lot more on the bal than a lot of the dim bulbs around this place.

I think people get too worked up over posts on a message board. They shouldn't take everything so personal. How does what someone types really affect your day to day life away from Trailtalk? Hopefully not at all, other than using the advice you can get for backpacking.

Stickiman walking --

What YOU said is my private joke about this place.

People turn themselves inside out, get offended, threaten to leave, get feelings hurt etc etc .

Its absolutely hysterical.

but in stiks defense, mutt, you shouldnt harangue him for using a fire-ring someone else built. should he have destroyed it? possibly. but dont hold it against him that he didnt. and then to assume he leaves his trash behind just because he uses a fire-ring that you dont like? well thats just silly. using an eye-sore fire-ring is one thing, littering is another. stik has never impressed me as a bubba-camper

i have hiked and floated with stikmon so i can talk here....

A)he farts in his sleep

B) kisses his dog, qweertru, after the dog has licked it's own butt

3)thinks he's some kind of norwegian flaming stick juggler

D)talks like a yankee chooch

E)jumps out of his boat with no warning, like a spaz covered by hornets

F) loves the outdoors and would never harm it and is actually very concientious about it

G)he is my friend

what smutt may not realize is that come the annual spring floods, that fire ring will be under 15-20 feet of raging water(the most powerful force in nature) and that fire ring will become part of the great circle of life, never to be seen again......and a river runs through it....

Hey Mutt
I think our ongoing bickering is stupid and immature. I admit to stoking the fire, just because I knew you'd fire back. But I feel it's gotten out of hand, and want to apologize. I'll even take you off ignore, which I know would just make your day (friendly sarcasm there).

Peace,
