Your cool factor just went up. a little.” 3:58:19 PM 1/05/05 “im sorry. have i offended thee?” 3:59:15 PM 1/05/05 “No, I've always been a big fan of his. I even wrote him a letter for a HS engrish project about 16 years ago. Not too common to meet another. And I didn't use my sarcastic font.” 4:07:04 PM 1/05/05 “Barry Manilow Engleburt Humperdink Neil Diamond Tom Jones and.....oh can't forget Yani! Just Kidding! Willie Nelson Doc Watson Bob Dylan Jim Croche Ronnie Van Zant” 7:22:18 PM 1/05/05 “Hank Williams, hands down.” 8:30:46 PM 1/05/05 Sorry “I meant Hank Lennon” 8:42:54 PM 1/05/05 “The Beatles!” 8:48:49 PM 1/05/05 I couldn't limit it to 5 “I'll probably take some heat for this but here goes... In no exact order... except for the first two: 1) Bob Marley - my Rasta Brother 2) John Lennon - for speakin his mind you gotta have him in there 3) Pete Townsend (the Who) - inventors of the "rock opera" no list is complete without them 4) Page/Plant (LedZepplin) Remember "Stairway to heaven"??? 5) Joe Strummer (the CLASH) my tribute to punk, but they were more than that - they made a political statement & rockin music! 6) Crissie Hynde - the Pretenders I love tough chick singers 7) Janis Joplin - ditto for Janis... you gotta have a screamin beeeeach like her on this list Some very notables: Ray Davies (the Kinks) Davies was a great songwriter who had a knack for catchy melodies and quirky lyrics. Jimi Hendrix - 20 years ahead of his time Jim Morrison - every guy wanted to be him Rolling Stones - you can't argue with success Bono (U2) - as you can probably tell from my list, I like songs with a political message Johnny Cash - yeah , for his life experiences & Cool factor Frank Sinatra - yeah... I'm serious! John Lee Hooker - cool, but not as influential as the others Jim Croce - Pleeeeease... come on... how'd he make this list? BackSlacker... another that won't make the list but can kick (or shoot) your ass would be Ted Nugent! Capt. Jim” 9:29:29 PM 1/05/05 “Paul McCartney and John Lennon are hands down the greatest songwriters ever!” 9:42:50 PM 1/05/05 “Melissa Etheridge Patti Smith Outback Steve Earle David Crosby” 9:47:21 PM 1/05/05 “Paul McCartney Paul McCartney Paul McCartney Did I say Paul McCartney? And, oh yeah, Tim-MAY! LOL” 11:18:03 PM 1/05/05 “OK, seriously though: Paul McCartney John Lennon Bono Pete Townsend David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) I still think that Dark Side of the Moon is one of the most amazing albums ever. Ironically enough, not a single one of the above-mentioned is American...” 11:26:53 PM 1/05/05 they belong in this group.... “how about don henley and tom petty??” 1:37:43 AM 1/06/05 “Songwriters: Bob Dylan Paul Simon Van Morrison Patty Griffin Indigo Girls” 7:56:51 AM 1/06/05 “Ahh, JLH. Who could forget classics such as, "Big Legs, Tight Skirt," "Boogie Chillin'," or "Mama, You Got A Daughter" Anyone have JLH, "The Healer" It has him with other notables such as Santana, Bonnie Rait, Roberty Cray, and Charlie Musselwhite. Good stuff.” 8:11:49 AM 1/06/05 “Van Morrison has been around for a long time. I was listening to his music in high school. Carole King Lennon/McCartney Bob Dylan Muddy Waters Elton John/Bernie Taupin” 8:21:07 AM 1/06/05 “I can't believe this thread dided right when Ewker and I posted. Come on folks.” 2:42:41 PM 1/07/05 “The Healer is what turned me on to JLH. I was in High School when it came out and was blown away. I don't think McCartney deserves more credit than George Harrison as a song writer. In fact I never liked McCartney as a musician.” 2:46:58 PM 1/07/05 “I think I'll break out some JLH now. I love Boogie Chillin'.” 2:50:45 PM 1/07/05 “Jay Farrar (Son Volt/Uncle Tupelo) Jeff Tweedy (Wilco/Uncle Tupelo) Jackson Browne Jack White (White Stripes) Billy Joel (Gotta love Piano Man!)” 2:52:05 PM 1/07/05 “George Harrison wasn't known as a song writer until the Beatles broke up. Even though he wrote quite a few hits for the Beatles.” 2:54:45 PM 1/07/05 “I've always liked "Something," and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps."” 3:02:37 PM 1/07/05 “"I don't think McCartney deserves more credit than George Harrison as a song writer. In fact I never liked McCartney as a musician." -Curahee That's too bad.” 6:00:34 PM 1/07/05 “Not really, it's a big world with lots of options. We're bound to disagree at some point. Lennon was prolly my favorite of the bunch.” 6:02:54 PM 1/07/05 “Curt Cobain Jim Morrison Aaron Lewis Sarah Mclachlan last edited: 1/07/05 6:14:21 PM” 6:10:28 PM 1/07/05 “I like to try to sing along with Sarah McLachlan......I'm a dork. Hank Williams” 6:29:32 PM 1/07/05 “Randy Newman” 9:39:53 PM 1/07/05 “JJ Cale...anyone know what songs he wrote” 9:51:57 PM 1/07/05 “Charlie Byrd Dave Brubeck” 11:12:07 PM 1/07/05 “JJ Cale is really good. Didn't he write Cocaine?” 4:06:59 PM 1/08/05 “how about a few others.... Jerry Garcia Trey Anastasio Frank Zappa Willie Dixon Lennon/McCartney” 4:14:45 PM 1/08/05 “Jack Bruce and Pete Brown” 4:16:55 PM 1/08/05 “McCartney is a brilliant musician. The guy smokes on guitar, bass and piano and can even play a trumpet. I think McCartney (as does Lennon) ranks up there with Beethoveen and Motzart.” 5:12:39 PM 1/08/05 “dayhiker, he did indeed write Cocaine. He also wrote After Midnight, Call me the Breeze. ENS, McCartney doesn't even come close to Lennon as a song writer. IMO Harrison was a better song writer than McCartney” 12:58:15 PM 1/09/05
