Alabama Idolater Suspended From BenchView Messages“ ![]() FELLOW IDOLATERS VOW TO CONTINUE HIS BATTLE TO DEFY THE CONSTITUTION HE WAS SWORN TO UPHOLD MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Reuters) - The Alabama chief justice who defied a U.S. court order to remove a monument of the Ten Commandments this week was suspended on Friday by a state panel that monitors judicial ethics. Alabama's Judicial Inquiry Commission said it filed a complaint against Roy Moore, who has been fighting to keep the two-ton granite monument on display since he installed it in the state judicial building two years ago. The monument remains in the building's rotunda, and Moore's supporters have vowed to risk arrest to prevent it from being moved. Moore, who was suspended with pay, will be tried before a judicial court. If found guilty, he could face sanctions that include removal from office. "The chief justice left (the panel) no choice," said Richard Cohen, general counsel of the Southern Poverty Law Center, one of the civil liberties groups that sued Moore. This week, the center filed charges with the commission stating that Moore's refusal to comply with the Wednesday deadline to remove the display violated judicial ethics. "This is not just Justice Moore against the federal courts," Cohen said. "This is Justice Moore against everyone."” 9:47:29 AM 8/23/03 “I don't get it. Since when did it become okay for Fundamentalist christians to worship a block of granite? Oh, and I was under the impression that the ten commandments subject to interpretation, and should not be carved in stone. At least the catholic church has given me that impression. Is that wrong?” 9:50:32 AM 8/23/03 “to call them idolaters is just hyperbole. theyre not actually literally worshiping the stone. BUT. I Agree with the courts decision. separation of church and state, dontcha know. of course, if you disagree, then you dont know.” 10:00:58 AM 8/23/03 “i agree but it's sad. oil well... SECULAR HUMANISM RULES! HURRAY!” 11:17:57 AM 8/23/03 Keep the Ten Commandments! “Keep up the good fight Justice Moore! I'm with you in spirit!” 11:30:53 AM 8/23/03 “Secular humanism keeps people from killing each other so often over religion, anyway.” 11:31:47 AM 8/23/03 “Instead of spending all their time on crap like this why doesn\'t the ACLU focus on representing impoverished children. What a sad pathetic group...Let\'s see..they want to be rid of the 10 commandments, but are at the same time fighting for Nambla...Evil is the only word I can think of :(” 11:37:04 AM 8/23/03 “I wonder how much support he would have if this had been an excerpt from the Koran or a Buddha statue he had installed? I agree with the Court's opinion. State sponsored religion may seem like a great idea,,,,,,,,unless the state is sponsoring a religion the people don't like. Regardless of what the subject matter is, he violated a direct court order and he should be removed.” 11:38:20 AM 8/23/03 “Try hard, and you might be able to come up with a few other words to think of.” 11:38:24 AM 8/23/03 “What religion is the "State sponsering"? What if it "sponsored" Atheism? Would that make it any better? I think not. Keep the Ten Commandments. Afterall, they ARE the basis of our Laws. And they are very good. Isn't secular humanism a belief system also...religion of sorts? Perhaps this is the new SPONSORED government religion! Wow! Thanks to all these liberal groups like the ACLU AND OTHER SUCH GROUPS.” 11:47:09 AM 8/23/03 “I was wondering why this hadn't made an appearance yet. What took so long? The previous headlines weren't inflammatory enough? <G>” 11:50:32 AM 8/23/03 “OH, would you have the same opinion if the good judge had installed Islamic references in the courthouse?” 11:51:31 AM 8/23/03 “message from the twit being ignored” 11:51:46 AM 8/23/03 “"Thou shalt have no god before me" This is part of the foundation of our laws? "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's goods." Seems downright communist to me! "thou shalt not take the name of the lord in vain" Contrary to free speech. "keep holy the sabbath day" I want to drink beer and watch football on Sunday. Kiss my ass. "Honor thy father and mother" Honor your own. These aren't in the law. They're religion. There's no good reason to have them in a courthouse. Buh-Bye.” 11:53:01 AM 8/23/03 “hmmm.... lessee... Thou shall not kill, thou shall not steal and thou shall not lie... What others can even remotely be found in the Constitution? Like y'all are so fond of saying - if you don't like our laws - MOVE!” 11:53:04 AM 8/23/03 “3 lousy seconds.” 11:54:18 AM 8/23/03 “Heh heh heh.” 11:55:37 AM 8/23/03 “Snoozin' again!” 11:56:50 AM 8/23/03 “Sunday is NOT the Sabbath Day. Friday sundown to Saturday sundown. Just think when the Messiah comes back HE will enforce ALL of God's Laws! Those who rebel after the 1000 yr. reign of the Messiah will have a new place to call home...with Satan in the Lake of Fire! Is this were YOU ALL want to spend eternity???? No beer down there! So you better get your full while here!” 12:08:15 PM 8/23/03 “Shouldn't you be off burning crosses somewhere?” 12:12:13 PM 8/23/03 “Whatever. God tells me you're a moron.” 12:16:59 PM 8/23/03 Moron... “...another liberal "buzz word" I see. Perhaps I will make a dictionary of liberal buzz words! I bet it will be a hot seller!” 12:22:46 PM 8/23/03 “Sure, and add "Liberal" to the moron buzzword dictionary. Apparently it can be used as a label for anything that makes you feel inferior.” 12:28:22 PM 8/23/03 “Any other words you would like to contribute? Should I put your name in the list of credits?” 12:30:43 PM 8/23/03 “Yeah, but any book YOU write will need some heavy editing before publishing. What is your trip with language here, anyway? Are you trying to be PC? It seems that you are, what with labelling certain words off limits and all. You must be a LIBERAL. Get outta here, you commie fool!” 12:34:01 PM 8/23/03 “Ok i live in alabama, and have a bit to say about this....but..i'm going to hold off right now..cause i'm about to go out on the conecuh..and i might say something to piss alot of pple off. MY only question that i want answered is.....WHO PAYED FOR THE MONUMENT? Taxpayer dollars....Moore....a gift from an outside party...why haven't the reporters jumped all over that question..because 10 bucks says WE payed for it..and if that's the case...specially with all the budget and revenues crisis's in our state...Moore will be rode out on a rail, and never see public office again. This isn't about the ten commandments anymore for him, he's pitching a fit, he was forced to remove a small plaque of them from the front of his bench...so he goes and sneaks in a 5,236 pound rock in the middle of the night and plants it in the front doors...now he's just trying to save face..too bad he's already committed political suicide” 12:40:01 PM 8/23/03 “Good point, Opie.” 12:46:22 PM 8/23/03 “I still support Justice Moore! Speaking of wasteful spending, just see what Bob "Taxft" did to Ohio! Mr. Tax-it for sure!” 12:47:27 PM 8/23/03 “Ohio hiker..then you sir...are a sheep...BAAAAAA” 12:55:31 PM 8/23/03 “Opie I think Ohio Hiker has a good point. Two wrongs make a right.” 1:03:33 PM 8/23/03 “Thankyou must hike!” 1:07:55 PM 8/23/03 “I think musthike was being sarcastic ohio” 1:13:24 PM 8/23/03 “It's lost on him. In fact, I think most things are. I'm getting ready to use the shiny new ignore feature, I think.” 1:28:46 PM 8/23/03 “This Moore guy is a clown. He hasn't got a leg to stand on. It would be a hoot if it turned out that HE had violated any of said commandments.” 2:39:55 PM 8/23/03 “I am still waiting for OH to answer my question.” 3:40:38 PM 8/23/03 “It doesn't really bother me that it is there and it won't bother me if it isn't there. But the fact that it is there means that other faiths have a strong case in having a monument of their own installed. To erect a Christian monument in a goverment facility and then refuse other faiths the same accomodation would in effect be state sponsorship/approval/recognition of a religion. Do we really want our goverment buildings to become showplaces for every faith that yells for recognition? I'd rather they concentrate on being a government.” 3:42:30 PM 8/23/03 “Very, very, well said, HPM. But then again, knowing you, I wouldn't have expected anything less.” 4:03:15 PM 8/23/03 “Thanks.” 4:16:44 PM 8/23/03 “I havne't read this thread yet, but will say that this guy is on TV every night. My feeling is that he is sincere, BUT really, really, really likes the attention he's getting. He probably hopes all of this attention will wind up getting him elected to the Senate. Just a guess.” 6:16:32 AM 8/24/03 “OPIE brings up a good point. This guy used to have a carved wooden version of the Ten Commandments in his courtroom when he served in Gadsden. He was told to take it down and turned the publicity into a run for the State Supreme Court. No joke, he had this grantite version installed in the middle of the night. If you have to do something at 2 am so that no one sees you, then you, yourself KNOW that what you're doing isn't right. This guy is so lame.” 7:31:27 AM 8/24/03 “Please someone tell me what channels to go through to find out who payed for this POS? I guess i'll make a call to the Mobile Register or Huntsville Times and see if i can get a reporter interested enough to ask the question...I see it referred to as HIS monument..but....come on” 1:44:05 PM 8/24/03 Nonsense “Moore is wrong. He's breaking the law, plain and simple. This is very un-Protestant, making such a fuss over an object, a symbol. It's a dam piece of rock. Why didn't they have this monstrosity there 40 years ago when they probably could have without any problem? He's a lame-ass excuse for a judge and should be fired. Hey Ohio Hiker......maybe the white salamander told judge Moore to put that rock in the courthouse.” 3:28:32 PM 8/24/03 “While THE constitution doesn't hold the Judao/christian faith specificly the Alabama State Constitution does.” 3:40:47 PM 8/24/03 “Nigel..the alabama state constitution is like 100 pages long, still says blacks are unequal slaves, women are unequal, literacy isn't important, and taxes should be gleened by politicians...we need to rewrite it..but the Bubba's are scared it might give 'dem colored folk and women crazzzzzy ideas” 3:55:10 PM 8/24/03 “Oh really? Where? I'm not an expert on the Alabama costitution but I found they actually have six of them. http://www.legislature.state.al.us/misc/history/constitutions/constitutions.html The first and second had this phrase: "No person within this state shall, upon, any pretence, be deprived of the inestimable privilege of worshipping God in the manner most agreeable to his own conscience; nor be compelled to attend any place of worship, nor shall any one ever be obliged to pay any tythes, taxes, or other rate, for the building or repairing any place of worship, or for the maintenance of any minister or ministry." It was modified slightly in each sucessive constitution and reads in the 1901 (newest) costitution as "That no religion shall be established by law; that no preference shall be given by law to any religious sect, society, denomination, or mode of worship; that no one shall be compelled by law to attend any place of worship; nor to pay any tithes, taxes, or other rate for building or repairing any place of worship, or for maintaining any minister or ministry; that no religious test shall be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under this state; and that the civil rights, privileges, and capacities of any citizen shall not be in any manner affected by his religious principles." Can you explain what you meant?” 3:56:48 PM 8/24/03 “What OPIE is referring too is that the Bama constitution is the longest in the country. It was written in about 1903 specifically to funnel power through a central area. The intent really was to keep blacks down. When a county half way across the state wants to change something, the whole state has to vote on it. Pretty stupid. I think OPIE means that the letter of the law and the spirit of the law are NOT one in the same.” 5:57:06 AM 8/25/03 “My post wasn't in response to OPIE. I was challenging Nigal's assertion that the Alabama Constitution "hold(s) the Judao/christian faith specificly". The 1901 Constitution certainly doesn't.” 6:44:05 AM 8/25/03 “I think the 1901 is the most curremt one” 7:03:52 AM 8/25/03 7:13:47 AM 8/25/03 “Moore's utter lack of profesionalism is astounding. How can you take a judge seriously who refuses to follow court orders? his priorities are completely in the wrong place. if he feels this strongly about his faith, that's fine, but he shouldn't violate court orders and the constitution. this is a 5,000 lb. monument that Moore had placed in the courthouse in the middle of the night. he didn't even have the balls to place this monument when the building was open. HPM makes a great point. if moore wants to showcase the ten commandments, he must also permit other religions to showcase their symbols.” 7:36:03 AM 8/25/03
