"Westward Ho! '03"
...will be a fall trip, so it's turned out.

It'll launch on Sept 21 - the day after my Philadelphia Philly's freakin' WEDDING! Yeah! She's getting married w/o me! ME!

Heh. Just kiddin' around. I'm very very happy for her. I'm excited about the wedding.

Anyhoo, I'll be hitting the road from Philly circa Sept 21. My itenerary thereafter is wide open. I will have completed a project(s) for a TT regular by then, so I'll be able to use a reference you all know and love.

My trade skills, in descending order, and on a scale of 1-10*:
carpentry - 10
electrical - 9.8
painting - 8.3
plumbing - 8.1
masonry - 8
heavy equipment operation - 2
HVAC - 1

10 = Bob Vila on 'roids.
1 = The Three Stooges.

Get yer list together -
my tools and talents are at yer service.

Nope. Don't let the homecenter associate fool you - properly laying tile requires exceptional skill.

Hey Gojo.
I might have some work for you to do around the house.

Awright Gojo, If you make it out to Sacramento, I might just have a bit of carpentry to hire you for. I need to get someone to tile my stairway, and after that I'll need to have the bannisters and rails redone...

I'm still looking for someone to remove wallpaper on the top of the wall along the stairs. It would involve building some sort of scaffolding. :) I have some very minor carpentry stuff left. And lots of painting. I'd even let you practice your tile laying skills on my entry way.

At the house I need to:
Re-finish wood floors
Re-finish kitchen cabinets
New kitchen counters/sink
Full re-do of 3/4 bathroom
Shed in backyard
Patio in back yard
Expand driveway to side of house

Also - I know most of the homebuilders and general contractors in the area are looking for help right now and promise to be busy through the winter.

Drop me a line if you come through Casper - if ya dont wanna work I'll at least buy you and yer dogs a beer or two.

These are doable. I 'spose I'd be willing to do some tile work, but it would be sub-professional.

My roadtrip launches out of Philly post-9/20.
I'm heading West from there.
First stop... Indiana?
Mike?

I've been hankering to do a trip in the Bighorns of WY since passing through last year. The Mighty Mighty Tacoma could coast to Casper from there - eh gar?

om -
If yer home cooking is equivilant to your trail cooking, I'd build you a skyscraper.

The Bighorns are my favorite - goin there this weekend. Still a 2 to 3 hour drive though (not quite a coast), but it takes at least that long to get most places in Wyoming.

Garfum -
Perhaps we can meet at the 'Horns for an overniter, or whatever, then head from there to your place...

I'll keep checking the thread.
I haven't set-up email as yet, but will soon. We can make further arrangements as time goes by.

The three chores of yours that I listed above are very doable, and I'd be happy to do them with/for you. You, and every other TTer, qualify for my "family rate": affordable, indeed. (You'd be a FOOL not to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!).

BTW...
We built portable sheds in my shop class. Over the years, I refined the design to the point that we were producing "The World's Best Built Portable Buildings".

You might want to consider building it in the same manner so's you can take it with you if you move elsewhere.

I need some stairs built off the back deck. If you get to NH, let me know or send me an e-mail and I'll give you my phone number.

Well who wouldn't want the best?
Sounds like we may have a plan.

Heading up to the Bighorns after work today - and a cold front came in this morning. Expecting temps in the mid 60s for highs and 30s for low in the hills. Might even snow up high.

Any ways we can prolly get you some steps so Gissmo can walk up ther and pee on the plants in the pots and what never.

We awreddy done some perty good steps be for. Do you got dollers? Do you got lisserds and rats? Do you got a watter bole? These are verry portant things.

Garf -
Yep. We got a plan. I'll be in touch. It may be some weeks before I reach your region, tho.

Ski -
I'll be at a wedding in Philly on Saturday, the 20th. I can be at your place the next day(?). I may stay the night somewhere in or near PA, and make my way up 95(?) on Sunday, 9/21.

I will be able to build the steps in one day, barring any snafus. We could have orientation Sunday pm, and I can do the steps Monday while you're at work and out of my hair-I-mean-way. I mean...I mean... aw, fuggitabowdit.

BTW - What'd I miss? I thought you were in NC...

Update -
I finished Om's deck yesterday. I'm enroute from Lowe's with a load of electrical materials now so's I can "remove her shorts light up her lights". I know - that's old (and baaaad).

Anyhoo -
I gotta scoot so's to get the new lighting done before Om gets home from work. She's gonna freak tonight when she sees the deck illuminated by this kewl light fixture I just bought...
(I hope SHE thinks it's kewl!)

Gojo and Sarabelle-

That would be great. Yes, I've got some dollars. Don't have any leezards or rats, but maybe you can look for a squirrel or a chipmunk, belle. We've got lots of water boles and food boles. We've also got racoons, deer, bear, moose, fox...you name it.

Send me an e-mail to the one on my profile and I'll send you my phone numbers.

Ski -
I have yet to set-up an email account. You could e me at Om's address tho. I'll be here for a few more days. Maybe I can get an e to you from here tonight after "the homeowner" gets home.

Arriving on a Sunday suckses - assuming you will go to work on Monday, etc. I doubt I'll be able to linger until the following weekend.

Belle and I did a fruitless January attempt to summit Mt. Adams(?) a couple years ago; we have a score to settle!

I definitely would want to do a summit somewhere in the Whites, or at least get above treeline. You can point the way...

No projects here. I'm doing those myself.

But, I'd be happy to take you in for a night or two if you need a place to crash. I'm a good cook. Sadie will gladly share her dog food and bowls and toys and treats...

Lots of TTers are very close by (including SG who mentioned some wallpaper removal and tiling) and would happily meet up for an evening of dinner and drinks.

I live in SE Mich, an hour north of the Ohio border.

reference......positive feedback!
gojo has completed what he calls an upper deck at my place......I call it the first rung on my ladder to the stars....did a fantastic job!...no materials wasted. He created exactly what i wanted from verbal plans even tho they were quite unconventional and did some great finishing work on it... this is good.
i would rehire this person....:)

regarding the light...i did think it was kewl...........but i am weird and want to pick out the light myself...its a sanctuary after all....LOL

So the fixture didn't go over so well... D'oh!

I broke the rules in the first place; customers choose the light fixtures. I was just trying to surprise Om...

She'll bring one home soon, and I'll put right there - exactly as she wants it...

Pammy -
I'll make Philly in a single day (13 hours), I'll toot the horn from Charlotte to the VA line...
Thanks for the invite, tho!

tarabull -
Who are you? Do I know you? How do I know you're not some kinda cyberfreak lying in wait wielding a big, cast iron skillet. Or preparing a poisonous concoction - "More gruel, my dear?"
Yeah! I got yer number, sister!

Besides, could I get there w/o actually having to enter OH? Hehehee!

no, w/out going thru canada (niagra) or wisconsin, you cannot avoid driving in ohio. trust me, i completely understand your concern. ohio drivers suck. :-)

Oh and I just thought of some actual work too. (The offer for beer food and lodging still stands no work required)

I need to put trim in almost every room in the house and put back the railing back in between the basement and the Dining room.

If'n youn's look back, you'll see that I have nothing chiseled-in betwixt NH and WY - Garfume and Ski-ter-racer are first in line beginning 9/21.

I could be out of NH circa 9/22-23 or whenever. I dunno, though - I'd sure like to look around the woods in those parts for a while...

Lesee...
I could be about In Michigan-in-law (the lower, lesser part [Michissippi! LOL!]) around the 26-ish.

Yeah... Michissippi on the 27th-ish.

Dang! I'd be difficult not to drop in on the Real Michiganders - The Yoopers - if I do North Ohio (aka "Michissippi")...

BTW - Chicago and Milwaukee have been on my tentative "cities to-do" list.

...I need an atlas session.

I had considered doing Canada from New England to MN... which would eliminate the *whole* US Lakes region - traveling westwardly, anyway.

If I went below the lakes, I could do Milwaukee, Chicago, and hit Canada at the BWCA, then continue in a westward direction.

I'll think about it...
