I just got this pair of trail runners cuz the price was right. (not that I run trails, necessarily... but I wanted something akin to tennies, but more like hiking boots that I could potentially jog a bit on trails or about town)

Here's the deal... They fit well for a mail order. ONCE I GET THEM ON, that is. I am about killing my foot getting them on!

They don't have a tongue, but a protective neoprene-like thing to keep rocks out. Which is fine. Perhaps I just have a really high arch. But holy sheeyat, my foot is too long and too high to go in easily.

Am debating just putting a cut of 1/2 to 1" down the neoprene thing. I think that would let my foot go in a lot more easily. OK, so I would lose the loose rock protection, but any other downsides you can think of?

I THINK I like them otherwise.

Each shoe has a loop on the neoprene thingee both middle front and middle back that you can hold onto to help get the shoe on. HA! I need a really slick shoe horn!!

So we all know that a guy with big feet means.... what does it mean when lizs has big feet?

Wanna take a stab at this, Naviguesser?

don't cut them!
I have the Montrail Vitesse model, actually my second pair now. They have the same type of built-in scree collar in them. I've got high arches too, and I felt the same way at first about getting them on, but once they are broken-in they go on much easier.

btw, you should use those to backpack in . . . I had over 600 mi. of bpacking in my first pair and they are great.

Cool, that is just the type of info I was looking for. I like them at least for just kicking around in (all I've done today)

One comment: They don't seem to have a lot of cushioning in the toe or ball of the foot.

Just go backpacking more in them and the problem is solved!

Good luck with the shoes.
Lizs this is a very interesting. I was thinking of moving over to trail runners, too. Please keep us (me) updated.
