Home Invasion!!

“Monday and Tuesday (8AM Monday - 10:30 PM Tuesday) - my home was the scene of a reality television show. Everyone who lives here, including my dog, had to go elsewhere - with the exception of my son who stayed with friends and the cast and crew and remodeled his room.

He was thrilled - he loves the room, had lots of fun, was the center of attention, got a digital camera and a wide, flat screen TV. He had a poster of a rap group on his wall, the producers got an autographed poster for him from the same group. He got great tickets to a Bjork concert and a Bjork DVD. The kids who were there with him also got digital cameras (plus he gave them the Bjork tickets since he can't go to the concert).

For almost 40 hours there were hordes of people in and out of the house. They had security guards and a cop who was directing traffic, trucks, buses a construction crew... etc. Now the former contents of his room fill my living room (I think we'll have a yard sale), I'm wiped. They paid for me us (my girl friend and I) to stay in a nice hotel Monday night, but we had to pay for our meals out since we had no access to our kitchen for 5 meals: 2 dinners, 2 lunches and one breakfast). Not too much damage to the house and they did send two maids for one hour to clean up after them (as well as some clean up last night).

Anyway, it was all very draining... and rather weird to be exiled from my house. Assuming that the show is aired, I will post the info. It will probably be a while though before we here.

All in all, my son is so thrilled that I would still do it knowing what I know now - but I do wish he was a bit more grateful (for how much everyone put themselves out for him) and a little less arrogant (much hot air was delivered to his ego).”

“Pepsi -- the trip report is slow in coming. I've been pretty busy with preparing for school (I'm teaching 3 classes starting next week, and this TV show and other work and home things). I am posting my gear notes - which includes comments on the caribou. If I'm lucky, I'll be posting a couple days worth of trip report before the night is done.”
