I asked this in the past but I need to ask again...

My computer monitor at home is dead. I need a new one. I don't want to spend more than $200.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

I was thinking the same thing. People throw them out constantly. Ouch, you don't have a car...

Or, try financing through Dell Preferred. the interest shouldn't be that much and you don't have to pay it all off at once...

I got a used monitor from a computer shop - worked OK for me for a while.

Okay.

Again, what brands are good? What resolution is best? What refresh speed is good?

I assume you don't want a 15" LCD for that price so here are good reviews of 17 inch and 19inch monitors.

I got the 19" ViewSonic G90f at home because I do a lot of digital photography on it. It's great for that but like the review says, the text is a little blurry, especially around the edges.

Check here for sales in NY.

For $200 I would not worry about the details. Try buying a refurbished monitor or used. You can get some nice ones otherwise you can get cheap 17" anywhere.
15"

You have to be specific on what you want. Do you want a 15",17",etc.

Would have thought you'd have no problem, there always appears to be loads of spare monitors out there.

I'd like a 19 inch if possible - I do photography stuff and some graphics

but I can not go over $250 including any shipping or taxi fare

NEC's are good at a farily low price. Check out Pricewatch for some good deals.

They are generic
Go to BestBuy, CostCo or some local discount computer store. There is no appreciable difference anymore among manufacturers' of monitors, they will all work just fine. Go for price.

I also have the 19" ViewSonic A90f+ pretty nice monitor and I do heavy graphics work on it. There are much better ones out there but this one fits my budget.

NEC monitors don't last very long for me. I've had two of them that only lasted about a year and a half each.

I like Mitsubishi displays and Sony trinitron tubes (except for that dang line they all have.)
