There should be a law against it.

Its only sin is that it's underpowered.

Well, there must be a market for ugly SUVs now. That is not a sexy vehicle.

I like funky/ugly design but if it has a weak powerplant or crappy suspension then the design fails me.

From Car Talk
"The Honda Element is part wagon, part SUV, part psychedelic milk truck. Whatever it is, we like it. It's cheap, exceptionally utilitarian, and comes with Honda reliability. In terms of its place in the car universe, it reminds us a bit of a modern day VW Microbus.

The Element driving experience is excellent and very much what you would expect from a Honda. In other words, the Element does exactly what you want it to, and you don't have to think about it. Acceleration is great, and there's plenty of power in the four-cylinder, 160-horsepower engine. The transmission is very, very smooth. You don't even feel the shifts. The version we tested also came with all-wheel drive, which provides bad weather traction."

The VW Cabrio would be a "chick car".

I heard somewhere that it was originally designed to appeal to young people, but it hasn't developed that market. It's about as ugly as an Edsel, or a PT Cruiser.

A woman who I was on a hike with recently had one of the Honda Element things. She loves it. She said it's great for, ahem, car camping, because you can fold all of the seats down flat, making a platform that runs from the steering wheel to the hatch.

Minimum for a car that heavy: 200 hp, 200 ft lbs. 250 ft lbs would make me interested in buying it (if I hadn't just bought the turbo forester).

I've seen them on the beaches in NC.
personally, I like it, I think its the perfect outdoor adventureers vehicle. Hose it down on the inside when it gets dirty. yeppers...It is the perfect vehicle to get you to the trailhead...not over the Rocky Mtns passes or serious offroad. I have been driving the Toyota Rav4, mine was the original 96, all wheel drive model. It has been running like a champ and gets me wherever I want to go. She only has 125 hp, but that has never hindered me from getting to the TH's. In time, i think the Element will be very popular, If I was in the market for a new vehicle...I'd be looking at the Element, for sure. I think the Bunnie, would look simply smashing up on top.

The Element is going to be my next car. I think it one good looking car with tons of room. It even has it's own tent.

I think it is great looking vehicle. It also gets good gas milage which is far better then any other SUV.

As for the comment about "No real man" would drive it. I am a 6'6 220lb guy. It is one of the few cars that I can fit in comfortably. Explorer, Tahoe, 4 runner, Bronco, none of those SUV's do I fit in comfortably. I have loads of head room and leg room.

If all you little boys who need those big trucks to compensate your short coming, have a nut spending 30 grand on the truck that gets 10 miles to the gallon. You will fit in nicely when have to drop you kids off to soccer.

I actually like the style of the car, and I really like the function behind the thing. It gets good gas mileage, and you can fit plenty inside. Hell, if I didn't have a fundamental aversion to buying new cars, I might get one.

Besides telling the whole word we drive an ugly vehicle, you obviously think we’re too dumb to check up on what you’re up to on the net. I thought you were supposed to outgrow this phase.

Oh well, I guess I’ll just waddle my dumb rear end out to my ugly car and leave you alone with your friends.

It's supposed to attract younger buyers, but my son took looked at it and said, "that thing is ugly and looks like it's made of plastic."

It's the ground clearance that turns me off most when I look at it. I also don't have any interest in going back to a underpowered vehicle - been there, done that.

My wrangler is 180 Hp and it's underpowered. I have aftermarket steel bumpers, 33 inch Superswamper tires, and a winch on it, but I think it would still be underpowered without all that.

Oct. 9 — There is a very good reason the nation’s auto showrooms are filling up with models that strike a lot of would-be buyers as just plain ugly. As it turns out, ugly sells.

VEHICLES THAT MAKE a mark with “extreme” styling — like the Chrysler PT Cruiser and Chevrolet Avalanche — move off the lot faster and generate a significantly higher profit margin than their plain-vanilla brethren, according to a study from J.D. Power and Associates.
But some designers clearly are going out of their way to create bizarre-looking vehicles they know will instantly repulse many consumers, betting that others will be drawn in by the chance to own a vehicle that
fits no traditional mold.

I've been thinking of getting something a bit easier on the gas card and I actually like the Element. I know it's underpowered but it serves a purpos that is a good compromise between a car and a bigger SUV. I saw one last week that had plates that said, "Box Car". Too cool!

I'm also considering a PT Cruiser. It's not 4 x 4 but it can haul what I need to.
