Holy sheep shoes! Did anyone see the pizza guy that was apparently forced to rob a bank with a bomb strapped around his neck? The cops had him in a stand off and the guy was begging them to take it off and while they dawdled he went boom.

Very sad…

They Just HAD To Wait For The Bomb Squad
I heard that all over the Akron/Cleve news this weekend. Very sad indeed!

I'm anxious to hear further investigation as to whether they find bomb making evidence in the delivery guys house or not. If so, it wouldn't surprise me... if not, I hope they get the basturd who did this.

Obviously, from the lack of posts, very few have heard about this story.

I read it on the net yesterday night. Truely sad if the guy was an innocent delivery guy.

I was a bit surprised it happened in Eire Penn. Isn't that like one of those nice smallish towns? The man didn't seem to be acting crazy either. Well, no more than anyone would be with high explosives around your neck. I have a great fear of explosions. I would have been running around histerical.

I don't think any town is immune from some of these bizarre events anymore. People have taken to some strange (and often violent) paths in our society. And they seem to be happening often in some of those "it can't happen here" type places...

According to the FBI's version, they determined that the cops couldn't do much more to help:

That is true Treebeard. Really though things like this have been going on sense the begining of man. Sometimes the human psyche is just unable to deal with the world around us. Many of us get scared when we see stuff like this and many run around like Chicken Little saying that our society is eroding and we are headed for a world based on chaos when really things like mass murders, school shootings and the like have always been with us. It’s just the way they are carried out now are much easier and gruesome. Despair and evil have been with us forever. One of the funniest bit’s the comedian Eddie Izzard does is about gun control…

“They say that guns don’t kill people, that people kill people. Well, yes, but they sure do make it a whole bloody lot easier, don’t they? Otherwise we’d just walk around pointing our fingers at each other yelling ’BANG!’ and they’d just fall over.”

We're also leaving out the media's role in these events. They are more 'in your face' than ever in reporting these stories. Events are more vivid as we become a 'picture' oriented society. More 'icons' are popping up everywhere and there is a picture to explain lots of things that didn't have it before. Maybe that's one reason that the images are more everlasting these days...

I don't know, I guess that it just bothers me that the cops were just standing there pointing their guns at the guy. The guy was basically begging for his life and nothing was being done.

I guess I think that if you are a police officer and job is to protect and to serve that there would of been a little more bravery on behalf of at least 1 of the officers to do something about it. Kind of like a soldier running through the line of fire to protect his fellow soldier. After watching the footage it just bothered me that they did nothing..that's it. It's like they didn't believe the guy and there seems to be a serious lack of urgentcy. But of course, that's just my opinion.

how does having a police office killed help? not all officers are trained to defuse bombs.

I think it was a setup to kill officers

BB, I think it still warrants rfurther investigation. I wonder what the response time of the bomb squad was. If they only had 5 minutes to act, then maybe there was nothing to anyone could do in a bizarred circumstance like that. If they had their guns pointed at him and stayed like that for an hour or so, then maybe there is some grounds for an introspective look into more positive reaction on the part of the poice. So far, I haven't seen them report some of those particulars...

not sure jello fog...i just imagine of it was a friend or my child even, that just sitting there watching would not suffice.

of course, my views are based on what i know so far and could change with more known details

There is probably a lot more to this story as the Fog alluded to:

Fast food customer dials 9-1-1 over condiment charge
Reported by Dave Summers www.wkyc.com

First, a pizza deliveryman dies when a bomb strapped to his body explodes. It happened right after he said he'd been forced to rob a bank.

Then a co-worker died. ABC's Robin Roberts has more on the mystery facing authorities.

Police said Brian Wells walked into the PNC bank and told the tellers he had a bomb strapped to his body. That's the same thing he told police when they stopped him just a quarter mile from the crime scene on Thursday.

Bob Rudge, FBI Special Agent: "The individual advised Pennsylvania troopers that he had an explosive device on his person. The troopers immediately backed away from the individual and secured the immediate vicinity to insure the safety of others."

That's when Wells' story changed. He insisted someone else had strapped the bomb to him and then forced him to rob the bank. Then this chilling plea:

Wells: "Why is it nobody's trying to come get this thing off me? I don't have a lot of time. He pulled a key out and started a timer. I heard the ticking when he did it. It's gonna go off. I'm not lying."

Moments later, it did: Caught on camera, but too shocking to view. Police are now trying to figure out if this is was an accident or murder.

Compounding the mystery: Another worker from the pizzaria was found dead yesterday. Robert Pinetti died at his parents' home Sunday after refusing medical treatment. A bomb squad searched Pinetti's home but found nothing suspicious. They're still looking into whether the two deaths are connected.

One thing that I keep thinking is the timing device. The guy said he could hear it ticking. The device was very, very sophisticated. Why is a mad bomber going to creat such a sophisticated device and then use a wind up alarm clock for a timing device when a digital device is more accurate and reliable?

The real skinny....
Being from Erie, Pa and knowing Bob Pinetti I wanted to add some things. Pinetti drank too much and did drugs. That's what killed him. Yeah....a bizare coincidence.
I also heard that B. Wells could not read or write. Neither one of these guys had it together enough to mastermind this heist and subsequent bomb blast. But, they could have participated. Either way...there is definitely one or more people involved other than Brian Wells. Guilty or innocent...imagine sitting handcuffed and knowing that bomb is going to go off. Pretty damn scary.
