I'm in San Diego on a business trip. I'm here through Thursday night 9/4/03. If any TTers would care to meet for dinner, let me know either here or by e-mailing me. It would be great to meet some of my fellow TTers on the left coast.

I am 100 miles away and unable to make the trip tomorrow. Sorry. Several others I know are mite closer, but still 70+ miles away.

Maybe someone will rise to the occasion!

Hi, 10 Bears. I'm staying at the Manchester Grand Hyatt. Send me an e-mail to the e-mail address in my profile and I'll send you my cell number. I have something going on from 6:15-7:30 tonight, but could maybe meet for a bite to eat or a drink after.

I go to San Diego all next week. It looks like I have at least one afternoon to blow off without working.

I am staying at the Catamaran Resort. What should I plan on taking in while I am there?

A lot of booze!

I mean something that would be unique to SD.

Hell, we even have booze in East Tennessee now. (Although I remember when you couldn't get a drink in the Tri City area).

Chili, are you thinking of doing like a dayhike? Or do you just want to relax in SD in general, and you're looking for something unique to the area?

Well, c bat, I am not sure I will have time for a dayhike. Sort of thought I would hang out for an afternoon taking it easy and check out anything unique to SD. I can make a Hooters run, but won't be there any longer than it takes to rate the workforce.

Adventure 16 has a store in SD, along with a big REI, if you are in a shopping mood.

Sorry, Chili-mon! When you said, "take in", I naturally went towards the obvious!

How about the San Diego Zoo? Having done docent work for the Wildlife Conservation Society here in New York, that's a place I would definitely visit. That is, if this kind of thing interests you...

REI might deserve a visit.

I wouldn't mind going to the zoo, but probably won't have the time it deserves.

True. The Bronx Zoo is a full day, at least. And that's cutting a few corners, too!

You're gonna be in one of the sweet spots of town to begin with. I would recommend renting a bike and cruising the boardwalk, from the South Mission Beach jetty all the way up to and slightly past Crystal Pier in PB. This wont cost you much and you'll be able to do it within a time frame that works for you, since you will never be far from your hotel and traffic will not be an issue. Ride for a while, stop and quench your thirst in the sand for a while, ride for a while... you get the picture. The Mission Bay boardwalk is also a very nice ride.

Well done, cbat.

I can see the merits to this plan.

Mission and Pacific Beaches were pretty nice as well as La Jolla.

Trader Joe's was a nice little place to shop for munchies.

I had no luck in getting any TTers to join me while I was in SD, maybe you will have better luck.

To kill smaller amounts of time, even after dark, you can toss a chunk of squid into the bay somewhere not far from your hotel. Sit there with a few frosties, watch the freaks and hope you hear drag. I could meet up with you on my lunchbreak and bum you a rod & reel suitable for this kind of fishing if you're up for it.
