I have always wanted to do the 100 Mile Wilderness. I don't know that I'd actually be able to get the time off to do it, but would love to try this time next year. Is there anyone else out there who would like to try this over 5 or 6 days. If I got to do it I'd have to shoot for big mileage to be able to have the time. Anyone?

I might try it again some time, but would want to add Katahdin to the trip. Of course I could finish up solo. Big mileage days are quite possible in the second half of the trip.

It's definately on my "to do" list. Next year is a possiblility depending on how much vacation time I'll have left. Like Ped, adding Katahdin would be a bonus. I'm also game for doing it in 5-6 days.

I'm working on a "thing". I'm not going to jinx it by saying what it is. But if this "thing" works out, I may have a some free time in late winter/early spring and would be up for doing the 100 Mile Wilderness at that time. Too early to tell, but I'm just throwing that out there.

LOL Mike!! Pennsy only competes with Pennsy. Sometimes Pennsy gets the bear and sometimes the bear gets Pennsy.

If you guys (and gals) want to plan something in advance, go ahead. I probably won't be able to commit until the spring though. There are some other little adventures I might be doing next year, like Alaska and/or Mt Ranier. I'll have a better feel of my vacation planning once those dates are settled.

Artex, just a suggestion. In Late winter early spring, keep it towards the late winter time frame. You can get into some serious post holing if you are too far into spring. I did once and ended up bagging a trip a day early and had sore knees for a couple weeks.

I'll take one big trip next year and this is on my "to do" list as well - I'll keep an eye on the thread. The pace is a little fast for me though. 5 straight 20 mile days? wheez...puff...wheez

I know about Artex's thing! =D

I'd love to do the 100 mile wilderness, but not in the early spring. Maybe when askus and co return from their trip, they'll bless us with a trip report.

I was thinking maybe August. Black flies would be long gone.

I'm glad to see theres lots of interest. I hope I have the time for this. My biggest issue is being gone for that long. If I'm going to take a week of vacation I typically want it to be with family. I'm married and have a 3.5 year old and a 21 month old. I'll just have to see how it goes.

I just assumed Katahdin was the final part of the 100 Mile section. Now I know that it's not. How much added mileage does Katahdin add?

I'm interested as well. After the Winter thaw and before the black flies would be primo. And I ain't doin' no 20 mile days neither!

Slowpokes will get a head start.

nyaH!

Via the AT, Katahdin (Baxter Peak) is 15 miles from Abol Bridge (which is the end of the 100 mile wilderness)... then you need to get down.

If I was planning the trip, my return route from Katahdin would depend on how much time I had left(and the weather) it would be great to check out another peak, the Knife edge, etc. I'd plan on doing some of these things and give myself some leaway - if I was behind schedule, I could cut out these "optional" things,

We could plan one of those trips where there are 5 dayers and 9 dayers but plan to meet up at the end. I like the sounds of August.

If you're already doing 20 mile days, up and over Katahdin as a dayhike should be no problem! :)

August would probably work best for me, since that's when its easiest to get time off. It would be great to meet up at the begining or the end with people going at different speeds. I'll be watching this to see what develops.

I'll post as I know more. I maybe have a 30% chance of doing the trip, but it's good to know the interest is there. I hope the stars align and it happens for me. Sounds like there are enough of you to go for it anyway.
