“Pretty good jolt at 6:40 this evening (Pacific) - we had time to decide we should get under something. USGS has it at 3.9. Then a 3.0 aftershock about 25 minutes ago....” 10:23:33 PM 9/04/03 “where in cali are you?” 10:30:45 PM 9/04/03 “Never a dull moment.” 11:00:56 PM 9/04/03 “6 km SE of Berkeley, CA Sep 4 2003 18:39:53 PDT 3.9” 11:16:26 PM 9/04/03 “I felt it. The epi was about 12 miles from me. Seems like every earthquake is 12 miles from me. I should move one of these days. Hmmm, maybe Pt. Reyes.” 2:51:52 AM 9/05/03 “Dang, I was hoping this would be a thread about the game Quake. I rock at Quake! [no pun intended, ok, yes it was intended]” 8:52:04 AM 9/05/03 “I heard about that on the radio this morning, Bowlderman! I was wondering how close you were. Must have been a big one- your typing looks a little shakey!” 8:56:06 AM 9/05/03 “The epicenters (main and aftershocks were only a few hundred yards apart) are about 5 miles from our house. It brought all of the neighbors out onto the street to discuss it. Of course, I had printouts of the quake info from the USGS site for everyone to review within 5 minutes of the quake. A 3.9 usually isn't much, but the proximity of this one to us made it feel pretty strong. Cameron's eyes got pretty big - it was his first earthquake while conscious. Will post a map of the epicenters shortly....” 9:15:40 AM 9/05/03 “Here's a map: ”9:22:07 AM 9/05/03 “Oops, trying again: 9:23:05 AM 9/05/03 “Pretty good shaker this morning at 3:35. It was a 3.4, centered near lake Temescal in the Oakland hills, and only about 6km deep. Woke us up, that's for sure!!” 4:22:40 PM 5/08/05 “They're all yours Bowlder. We get hurricanes, you can have the temblors.” 4:47:10 PM 5/08/05 “As BowlderGal explains, she prefers earthquakes to other things like tornadoes that she got to experience in her home state of MI. When a tornado is approaching, they let you know for a good hour before it gets there that you're about to die. Worse with hurricanes. At least with an earthquake, you don't have all that time to worry about it....” 5:40:18 PM 5/08/05 “I know. I went through a few fairly mild ones in the Philippines. For the next week I walked around with the feeling the entire world was made of Jello.” 5:58:47 PM 5/08/05 “i had a couple of small shakes in West TN as a kid - fairly surprising events. We also had to deal with tornadoes. And down in FL last summer there were of course the multiple hurricanes. The hurricanes were BY FAR the worst - we all watched them churn around the Carribean for several weeks before they bore down on us. I told folks that I'd take my chances with tornadoes ANYDAY over the hurricanes. Glad to hear yall are all ok the Bowlderman!” 6:10:30 PM 5/08/05 “The tornado that I experienced in Kansas did not give us more that about 15 seconds notice. One minute it was raining hard and then it sounded like a freight train. Luckily the tornado was just skipping down the street. We didn't get the whole thing but enough to cause a tree to fall on the front porch of the house I was living in. After that, everytime I heard thunder and hard rain I got a maximum pucker on.” 7:29:40 PM 5/08/05 “we have earthquakes in Germany, but they are nothing compared to the ones in CA. IF we have a little crack in the walls we are hit "badly", at least that's how it was years ago. Tornadoes: I sleep through those suckers, which makes them even more dangerous for me at night. I would never wake up, and actually slept throught the one that hit clarksville back then. Glad you are okay” 7:35:59 PM 5/08/05
