I got this in an email today. “ Use this patch immediately ! Date: Fri, 05 Sep 2003 07:55:26 -0400 Dear friend , use this Internet Explorer patch now! There are dangerous virus in the Internet now! More than 500.000 already infected! Attachment patch.exe .exe file I scanned it and found the bad guy.” 7:22:22 AM 9/05/03 “Was the e-mail from Violin? Of course, I wouldn't even consider downloading a patch or file from ANYONE unless I was certain of its merit.” 8:23:22 AM 9/05/03 “Pathman probably received this virus, as did I a few days ago. Fortunately I was too paranoid to even open the email, and I deleted it off the server from work before downloading it to my home computer. Remember, Microsoft doesn't distribute patches or upgrades via email.” 1:59:23 PM 9/22/03 “I can't believe you linked directly to a virus bitpusher! What were you thinking?
