Got a ticket in Saranac Lake

This past week I got a speeding ticket (50 in 30 mph zone, dang speed trap $^%#@) driving through Saranac Lake at 2:30 AM. The ticket has no mention of the cost of the fine or number of points and instead there is a court date written on the ticket for next Wednesday at 9AM. "Why sure Judge, I'll just take my private jet instead of the 8 hour drive so I can be back to work for lunch?"

WTF??? Why does it seem they do everything backwards in New York? I've been having no luck calling the county police and courthouse to get the cost and points. Those things are good to know before you choose how to plead, no? My friend said that the ticket may be as much as $350 and four points yikes!

Any help out there would be much appreciated (and full of yummy-good karma)

Advice, don't pick up the soap.

I got a speeding ticket in New York about a year and a half ago and the same thing, no information on the ticket not even a court date. When I finally got in touch with someone they said that I would be contacted. About 6 months later I received a letter in the mail telling me how much the fine was and where to send the money if I did not want to appear in court.

Hey Capn, don't speed through Saranac Lake at 2:30 a.m. They run speed traps there.

Geez - thanks Geo!!! That's exactly what my friend from Saranac said too (fr$#@ f#@! so&#$ sh&^%!)

musthike - so you pleaded "not guilty" and then they sent you the costs? Do you remember what they were? I'm gonna try to call the Judge again today if I can ever get off TT.

Sorry you got nailed and they aren't being forthcoming about the info.

As a general rule, don't speed through small towns. Consider all small towns as potential speed traps, especially if they're on some main route. Such towns can and do budget for a certain amount of their revenue to come from speeding tickets and they do actively collect on such.

This is true most anywhere you go.

Wanna feel better?

There was a dude that used to hang out here who got a dui on his bike, got some jail time out of it and because he refused to cut his hair going in he was put in with the hard core criminals.

He beeatched and moaned for weeks on end about it.

The point reduction form
Here is the latest info for being out of state and getting a speeding ticket in the upstate NY area. I spoke with the folks in the judges office and you can ask for a point reduction form. Use this form to make your case to get as many points dropped as possible. I was able to get my driver's record for the past ten years online from PENNDOT and I'm sending the clean record in with the form, asking for leniency. What the hell, it can't hurt, since this violation carries something like 4-6 points with it. The fine only costs about $140.

This info may help someone out there I hope. If this "off-topic" chatter offends you, tough #&%!$.
