Black's on Queen Mary Road in Montreal is closing and they're having one incredible blowout sale.

They don't have as extensive an inventory as MEC or La Cordée, but they do have some neat stuff, as well as high end clothing.

Just thought you might like to know.

Actually, this is news for some of you Americans living near the border in upstate New York or Vermont, what with the cheap Canadian $.

Are there more crazy Canucks besides the grems around here?

Yup
It's only an hour from Lake Titus, Cap'n. Mapquest can give you the directions.

Huh-ha! Lake Titus. To be honest, If I'm heading across the border, I'd rather go to Chez Diane!!!

I think the sale might be over before I got there from Vancouver

Yep, it's a shame, alot of smaller outdoor equipment stores are closing since a MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-op) franchise opened up in Montreal.

So, being tired of not having any whiskey in the house, I stopped off at my friendly local ABC store on the way home yesterday. Looked around at the different kinds of whiskey they had available, my fingers running lightly over my faves which I can't afford to buy unless I find them on sale (ha!). Then I passed by the shelves of Canadian whiskey. The price comparison knocked my socks off! Well, almost anyway.

For some reason, Canadian whiskey is way cheaper (at least in Alabama) than bourbon or Tennessee whiskey, and definitely cheaper than Scotch. I picked up a bottle of Canadian Mist. It ain't Maker's Mark, but it ain't too shabby, either.

So, is it the exchange rate? Or do you Canucks have some sort of agreement with the state of Alabama and you're dumping your whiskey here at rock-bottom prices?

I have no idea, Bit. Mind you, I don't drink the stuff - if ever I drink sweet whisky it's Wild Turkey.

I suspect that Alabama's taxes are low.

Oh no, Alabama's liquor taxes are through the roof. A 1.75L bottle of Maker's Mark costs $50 here, $32 in Tennessee. More than half the cost of a bottle of liquor in Alabama is taxes.

And FWIW, the 750ml bottle of Canadian Mist I bought last night was $11. I think that a similar bottle of Maker's was in the $20's.

I guess that's why I don't touch Canuck booze (love our beer) - you sure you want to put that stuff to your lips?

Keep sending the cheap passable booze and you'll have no trouble from me, Grem...

I might need a case of a fine Canadian beer delivered to my door to keep me from invading.

I tried to alert the Canuck army in New Brunswick, but I couldn't find him. Maybe he moved.

Heheheheheheheh! Have cooler, will travel.
