Bought a Folbot folding kayak..

Also, I know there are some river clean-ups going on soon. Hmmm, in fact now that I think about it, the one on the Root River might be THIS WEEKEND!!! And I think there's one on the Upper Iowa in NE Iowa around Sept. 27.

“BTW, mataharihiker, I'm from Wisconsin, too. Not fortunate enough to spend as much time abroad as your bio says you have, but did a year in China. Also paddle, and am learning to sail. What part of the Cheese State are you in? Based on what Lizs said, perhaps in the SW near the Mississippi or the St. Croix?”

“I bought a Yukon in yellow and have already named it "Mellow Yellow" in remembrance of my misspent youth. It weighs in at 42lbs but that's without the rudder and deck lines. Comes in 2 bags..one is 10" X 10" X 53" and the other is 21" X 27" X 9". The sail rig is an unknown as far as size goes..never asked. I've missed sailing these last few years and I also haven't done as much fishing as I'd like. I live in Northwestern Wisconsin across the St. Croix River from Minnesota. Pekka, where were you in China? I spent a few years in and out of Hong Kong but never got up North. I really like the Chinese.”

“mataharihiker, I was in Chengdu, Sichuan, way in the interior. Spent one night in Hong Kong on the way in (the next time I heard of our hotel there, the Metropole, it was in the news as part of the SARS outbreak).

I'm in Rhinelander. Are you north of U.S. 8 in the "Indianhead" area?”

“I'm on hwy 8 but at the western end in St Croix Falls..I'll be driving thru Rhinelander Thursday, Sept 18th on my way to Michigan to see my folks..”

“Well, we're practically neighbors! Before they 4-laned Hwy 29 from Wausau to Chippewa Falls, we used to go the 8 route to Minny-soda through St. Croix Falls. Last time for that route was on the way back from Twin Cities so we could see the Ladysmith tornado aftermath.

Where are your folks in Michigan? We go up to Marquette pretty regularly. If you know where the college is in Rhinelander, then you know where I'll be on the 18th.

To at least touch on the thread topic, the opportunities for using that Folboat are pretty much endless in your general location. (Though I have to admit, for all the opportunity that surrounds me, even at work, my canoe has not come off the saw horses yet this year, which seems sacrilegious in these parts.)”
