Bought a Folbot Folding Kayak.. “With sail..anyone used one of these before? I look forward to trying something new..seeing the outdoors from a prone position is appealing>” 6:34:06 AM 9/06/03 “Prone position? You can lay down on your stomach in your kayak??? In anycase, let me know how the sail works out. They're cheap enough where I've been thinking about getting one to fool around with.” 9:57:44 AM 9/06/03 “mataharihiker, I think you live vaguely in the same area I do (have seen other posts elsewhere). I'm in SE MN. Wanna get together sometime for a hike or backpacking trip? Also, if you're interested, a gal around here has started a hiking club. Here's a link to the webpage. likinghiking.com Also, I know there are some river clean-ups going on soon. Hmmm, in fact now that I think about it, the one on the Root River might be THIS WEEKEND!!! And I think there's one on the Upper Iowa in NE Iowa around Sept. 27. And now back to your topic, I, lizs, know nothing about kayaks nor that kind of thing. :-) lol” 10:24:49 AM 9/06/03 folbot or fools boat? “I always refered to the folbot as a fools boat. It might be fun in a swimming pool, but those things aren't really sea worthy vessels are they? What are they made of? How are they hinged? Is it comfortable for sex?” 12:00:05 PM 9/06/03 “how much do they weigh? how much space do they take up?” 12:05:17 PM 9/06/03 "Badda bing" “I never ask. Mooooo Haaaaaa Haaaaaa” 3:29:26 PM 9/06/03 “Folboats have been around a long time and are very seaworthy. While perhaps not as high tech as Feathercraft or Nautiraid folders, or quite the level of Germany's Kleppers -- and nowhere near as expensive as those others, they are sturdy craft that have gotten good reviews in paddling publications. Far, far from toys, Folboats have seen expedition use in lots of places where folks fly in, such as Alaska and Canada. Which model did you get, mataharihiker? A sail will be fun, and helpful, on any lake crossings if the wind is with you. Have fun, they're cool craft.” 4:34:26 PM 9/06/03 “BTW, mataharihiker, I'm from Wisconsin, too. Not fortunate enough to spend as much time abroad as your bio says you have, but did a year in China. Also paddle, and am learning to sail. What part of the Cheese State are you in? Based on what Lizs said, perhaps in the SW near the Mississippi or the St. Croix?” 4:38:35 PM 9/06/03 “Let me know if you like it. I think that's the one I was looking at a couple of weeks ago. I have a car with a soft top and can't carry a kayak.” 4:59:17 PM 9/06/03 “I bought a Yukon in yellow and have already named it "Mellow Yellow" in remembrance of my misspent youth. It weighs in at 42lbs but that's without the rudder and deck lines. Comes in 2 bags..one is 10" X 10" X 53" and the other is 21" X 27" X 9". The sail rig is an unknown as far as size goes..never asked. I've missed sailing these last few years and I also haven't done as much fishing as I'd like. I live in Northwestern Wisconsin across the St. Croix River from Minnesota. Pekka, where were you in China? I spent a few years in and out of Hong Kong but never got up North. I really like the Chinese.” 8:35:09 PM 9/06/03 “what color is it mataharihiker????” 8:36:35 PM 9/06/03 “sing along with Donovan.."they call it Mellow Yellow, that's right, Jack"..so, knowing that, guess what color it is (wink)..yellow sbove, black below..buzz-z-zzzzzzzzzz” 9:00:37 PM 9/06/03 “Congrads mata! Have fun!” 9:05:41 PM 9/06/03 “so, your saying it is yellow” 9:13:01 PM 9/06/03 “mataharihiker, I was in Chengdu, Sichuan, way in the interior. Spent one night in Hong Kong on the way in (the next time I heard of our hotel there, the Metropole, it was in the news as part of the SARS outbreak). I'm in Rhinelander. Are you north of U.S. 8 in the "Indianhead" area?” 3:17:47 PM 9/07/03 Hi Pekka “I'm on hwy 8 but at the western end in St Croix Falls..I'll be driving thru Rhinelander Thursday, Sept 18th on my way to Michigan to see my folks..” 5:37:29 PM 9/11/03 “Well, we're practically neighbors! Before they 4-laned Hwy 29 from Wausau to Chippewa Falls, we used to go the 8 route to Minny-soda through St. Croix Falls. Last time for that route was on the way back from Twin Cities so we could see the Ladysmith tornado aftermath. Where are your folks in Michigan? We go up to Marquette pretty regularly. If you know where the college is in Rhinelander, then you know where I'll be on the 18th. To at least touch on the thread topic, the opportunities for using that Folboat are pretty much endless in your general location. (Though I have to admit, for all the opportunity that surrounds me, even at work, my canoe has not come off the saw horses yet this year, which seems sacrilegious in these parts.)” 6:37:23 PM 9/11/03
