Thru-hiker down on his luckView Messages“Squidly was referring to "liberal" the verb, not the noun. He'll be back - looking at the thread, anyway. Do this, Landsquid: Stop and offer to split wood for residents along the way. You can use their tools. Ask for chump change, and you'll likely get much more... mebbe even win their confidence enough so's they'll offer you "a hot and a cot". If these folks live within view of the trail, they're accustomed to thru hikers. That could be a double-edged sword, tho, I suppose. Check-out the business card bulletin boards in public places, ie, restaurants, stores, etc. Look for key terms like "handy man" or "yard service" or whatever. Some of these guys might work you for a day or two of cleaning gutters or ditchdigging or whatever. You could walk away with $$$ with which to buy showers, rooms, and hot meals... Be resourceful. You can pull it off.” 2:01:15 PM 9/12/03
