If anything, I would say that the Austrians hold life more dear than we do, in that they are more willing to extend a helping hand to their poor than we are to ours... 7:45:18 PM 9/10/03 “Good Gosh! Humanpackmule, I would say that your experience was much more directly affected by 9/11 than a lot of peoples, although it is somewhat different than what people in the trade centers at the time experienced as they made their way out (those that did, that is). Or the people that lived with the airborne debris and the sight of the collapsed buildings for months. HPM, that must have been quite a traumatic moment in your life. All I can say is that I hope that this type of event doesn't happen with increasing frequency.” 7:57:27 PM 9/10/03 “I feel like Stovestomper. I feel anger, and I feel sadness, but I really don't wanted to share. All this got to me more then I ever thought it could. Yes, I may will share a few tears tomorrow. I had a neighbor in TN that used to live in NY. I always talked to him and his wife at the bus station in the morning. We had fun and joked around, but also had some serious discussions. I know he had a lot of firefighter friends, some of them now dead. This year it just became too much and he did not feel strong enough to handle life. He comited suicide. I can't describe what I felt when I found out. Tomorrow I will think of him and his family too.” 7:58:43 PM 9/10/03 “Okinawa,1 yr. learned Japanese on a conversational level. Used to hang out with the local villagers and go fishing with them. The last 20 years have seen more acts of genocide against ethnic peoples than I care to remember,.I got dazed just trying to keep tabs.” 8:04:16 PM 9/10/03 “Sorry, missed the last two posts. Suicide is the one thing in life I can't understand.” 8:17:16 PM 9/10/03 “Welp, I've just turned my TV of for the day. ggeeeez....” 7:52:47 AM 9/11/03 “they are going to have a Moment Of Silence at 8:46am here at my work” 8:04:22 AM 9/11/03 “mape, have you heard whose design they selected for the new tower?” 8:09:35 AM 9/11/03 “As with all patriotic holidays I have respectfully and solemnly removed my pants. At noon I will begin drinking heavily and by 5PM I will find a nice Mosque to ram my ‘85 Mustang into during evening prayer. j/k While I will never forget 9/11 the best thing for me to do is flip the finger to the east towards the mideast and move on with my life.” 8:11:13 AM 9/11/03 “I'm with you on that, Laq. I don't need to hear the politicians talk, the news people to ramble off scripted rhetoric, or any of the 'specials' they have put together for our benefit. I willl settle for talking on here a little, being with my family and remembering in my own heart. I choose not to ignore that part of it. I'm going to go on and, instead of starting a new thread about this, briefly tell a quick account from that morning two years ago. At 8:53 AM, I received a frantic phone call from an attorney friend (whom I didn't know too well at the time being that I only got the job 3 weeks before) that the WTC is on fire. He was ranting, " Holy #&%!$, the #&%!$ing thing is missing 8 floors, and on and on. I said to myself, Whoa. This guy is pretty excited, so i punched up CNN.com and saw a picture of the first tower. Well, I called Maple and told her and then she walked out(being down within view of the towers where she works) and she saw the second plane hit. Well, the rest is history and I won't elongate this post with it. But, I will share a link to some pictures I have if anyone is interested. The guy I mentioned before on the phone lived in Battery City about 6 blocks from the WTC. He was shaving before he called me, when he heard a thunderous roar. He said it shook the mirror and he couldn't understand what made that noise. Curiously, he went to the terrace and saw the devastation. What follows on the link is a series of pictures he took. Please don't label me morbid for posting these or obsessed with death or whatever. I am just sharing something today with those that are interested. Forgive me if you think what I am doing is overkill on the subject. Maybe it's just my way of dealing with it. Here goes: Link” 8:15:25 AM 9/11/03 “G_d, I can't imagine how much more intense the day must be for you NYers. I apologize for my flippant post. It was a shltheel post.” 8:22:03 AM 9/11/03 “It's ok, Nig! I'm of the opinion that we are all on the same page on this event. How we vent our feelings, whether it be through sorrow or comedy or anything in between is ok. I know what's in our hearts, excepting some extremists that enjoyed this day two years ago. So, there's nothing to feel bad about or apologize for, IMO.” 8:25:18 AM 9/11/03 “So I can keep my pants off?” 8:29:18 AM 9/11/03 “Only if you're solemn.” 8:33:00 AM 9/11/03 “somehow the thought of nig without his pants and waving the american flag makes me giggle.” 8:34:20 AM 9/11/03 “I'd prefer to forget.” 8:34:29 AM 9/11/03 “Maple, I was going to make a post about being at half mast waving the flag but I'll return the thread to it's more respectful tone.” 8:36:56 AM 9/11/03 “And put your pants back on, ferchissakes!” 8:37:40 AM 9/11/03 “Treebeard, no, nothing personal toward you or mapleleaf. Indeed I probably was "just proselytizing [my] views on Americans and how they treat death." I'm just blunt and straightforward, and I can understand why you would be tempted ascribe evil intent to my post. And I have nothing against New Yorkers or Easterners in general, or southerners or even ozarkian hillbillies. What I do have a problem with, though, is the resident christofascist agrees with me!! I must purge myself! I think I'll go out and burn a few bibles....” 8:38:01 AM 9/11/03 “A little levity is not misplaced today. I will pray for the families and friends that were lost. I will also pray for the soldiers that are away from their families today.” 8:38:50 AM 9/11/03 “Cool, Mutt. I figured that was all it was. Pardon me if i read between the lines when it was not necessary...” 8:39:58 AM 9/11/03 “mutt, i understand why and what you were trying to say. and i agree with some of the things you were saying. but just remeber that grieving and mourning and rembering are all very different things. I am not in Grieving, or am I Mourning the loss of a dear one (thank god) but i am thinking of the families that did lose someone. there is not one NY'r that did not hear of either a freind of a frined or your postman or the lady down the street whoes sons friend died that day. my sons class mate father did not make it home that day. what im trying to say is in some way we are all linked together. sorry if i have not made what im saying and feeling clear, its hard sometimes to remove emotions and to make the other person understand what im feeling. everyones feeling are very very valid!! i may not agree but i do understand. sorry if i confused you or anyone with this ramble” 8:46:00 AM 9/11/03 “At sunset, two light beams pointing skyward are to be switched on, evoking the image of the twin towers in a reprise of a popular monthlong memorial unveiled in March 2002 ”9:43:58 AM 9/11/03 “Gemini - I'm sorry Nigal - you made me giggle while holding back tears a note on some of the anti-Muslim posts....I'm not sure what is meant to be lighthearted and what is meant to be serious... but please remember that the attacks were planned and carried out by a group of fanatics... not by the entire Muslim population... and it is just as wrong to target an entire group based on them happening to have the same religious preference as a group of maniacal, murdering, fanatics as it was for the group of maniacal, murdering, fanatics to attack the WTC and the planes (I'm excluding the pentagon because it is a military/governemnt institution)because they had a bone to pick with our government.” 9:45:01 AM 9/11/03 “Just to clarify my flipping off the mideast...I am flipping off the terrorists, not all Muslims. Although I must the silence from the Islamic community has shown me something about Islam as a whole. As Sarabelle says... "Whatnever."” 9:48:14 AM 9/11/03 “I'm commemorating today by going about my job as usual. Trying to do it a little better today. I was at work today at 5 AM doing testing on a new ship.” 10:05:34 AM 9/11/03 Gawd, I hope not!!! “Film Expert Expecting More Intense 9/11 Images by KYW's Karin Phillips A local film expert says expect to see more and more intense images from that infamous day. When that first plane hit the World Trade Center, what Americans heard and saw was raised to a new level of horrifying. But expect that level to rise, says Jonathan Estren, dean of the College of Media Arts and Design at Drexel University: "There were things that the news media actually chose not to show because it was too horrifying. You may see some of that now, two years later. Why? We've got to show something new, we've got to show something bigger, we've got to keep it alive -- and it's going to take more to do that." Estren says the lessening impact of the September 11th images might work for the good by helping people to cope with what happened -- or the bad, by making people emotionally dead to what has happened: "In order to get the audience to feel that afresh, you have to do something that will make them feel it now the way they felt it two years ago. We need more in order to get the same hit off it, so to speak."” 10:14:28 AM 9/11/03 “I am flying my flag proudly today. I was proud how the citezens or our country pulled together to help each other in the aftermath. How firefighters and others worked so hard endangering themselves to try and rescue those still living, how new york city held together in order to go on after that tragedy. What I saw gave me hope that human kind is not as cold and ruthless as sometimes I believed.” 10:20:06 AM 9/11/03 “Turns out, I'll be spending it listening to the blues, reading, here and the news off and on.” 11:40:48 AM 9/11/03 “I think I'll also light a fire in the chimonea tonight.” 12:12:37 PM 9/11/03 “United 93 film is set to open. that is the plane that went down in PA. why do they feel the need to film this? I think we all got the point. JMHO” 7:14:44 AM 4/25/06 “Poor taste to make a film about this.” 7:18:36 AM 4/25/06 “I haven't really formed a complete opinion about this yet. I guess I'm still on the fence. But, I can say that the couple times I've seen the previews, I've felt disturbed. And, even a little guilty for the companies that are benefiting financially from this story. On the other hand, there may be many people who will gain from a movie like this. Maybe even some of the people who lost loved ones. It might make some feel good to see their loved ones portrayed as heros for all of the world to see. And... it's not like this is the first tradegy to be made into a film.” 7:20:47 AM 4/25/06 “good point tara. the father of the guy that said "lets roll" is invloved i think if is was me and i had lost a loved one, i would want nothing to do with it.” 7:24:51 AM 4/25/06 “Definitely not going to see it. I don't need to dredge up the sorrow that took so long to work through. Still too soon, too close to home.” 7:56:07 AM 4/25/06 “The only negative comments I have heard are from people who don't want to remember WHY we are fighting ...kinda like the people who hated "The Green Berets" in the 1970's. On 9/11 I will do what I have done every other 9/11, go to a small memorial service at the station, try to remember that there are 300 of my brothers answered the last alarm.” 8:06:51 AM 4/25/06 “As long as they haven't done anything too hollywierd to detract from the reality of the actual event, I think the movie is a good thing. It should be a moving tribute to the bravery of those on board who took action and prevented the additonal suffering and loss of life that was the goal of the terrorists. I look forward to watching it. I hope a lot of people watch it.” 10:54:29 AM 4/25/06 “I think we all need to see it.” 11:03:07 AM 4/25/06 “The Green Berets(1968) was pure schlock and helped promote the Fantasy Vietnam. It was a celebration of useless slaughter. The scene where they were bulldozing bodies of Vietnamese was really nice. It was fitting though, a movie based on lies based on a war based on lies.” 12:09:01 PM 4/25/06 “It was fitting though, a movie based on lies based on a war based on lies.” MarkO Though this movie is based on truth I find it very disturbing that we are in another war based on lies and no one seems to care...maybe after 10 years, billions of $$$ spent, and who knows how many dead soldiers Americans will wake up again. No more Daddy's War!” 2:47:19 PM 4/25/06 “I'm sure you were all out front in condemning Fahrenheit 911 and Bowling For Columbine, too.” 3:15:53 PM 4/25/06 “i would like to see this movie. all the fu#&%!$cking politics and bickering aside, the passengers on that plane were heroes. RIP Passengers of United 93” 3:25:52 PM 4/25/06 “I would like to see this movie. I think it will show how the bravery and ingenuity of the passengers thwarted a portion of the terrorists' September 11 plans, at the cost of their own lives (although they probably hoped that they would survive if they took over the plane). The WTC and Pentagon hits were bad enough, who knows the additional chaos that could have resulted from a hit on the White House or the Capitol Building? If the passengers on the three other flights had done the same thing our recent history could be totally different. They probably would have, if they had known that they were doomed anyway. It's all about individual courage and sacrifice.” 4:11:33 PM 4/25/06 Terrorists have feelings too! “All evidence suggests that the terrorists’ relatives were left entirely out of the creative process, an action which goes a way toward revealing the film’s hagiographic bias (how easy it then becomes to turn victims into heroes and adversaries into monsters) and points up the general ridiculousness of involving the families in the first place (too many cooks spoiling an already rancid broth).” 5:27:33 PM 4/25/06 “If the passengers had not acted the Plane would have been shot down.” 5:35:20 PM 4/25/06 “well, excuse them for not thinking of that. maybe they were hoping they could actually survive if they bum-rushed their captors” 5:42:52 PM 4/25/06 “This film must be destroyed quickly! It will make the mob of nazi Bush supporters stronger. It's very unfair in the way they made the brave freedom fighters look that sacrificed their all for god. last edited: 4/25/06 6:01:41 PM” 5:52:46 PM 4/25/06 “http://thunderatdeathcorps.250free.com/Webpages/john_holmgren_truck.htm You might like to see this guys Rig!” 5:55:41 PM 4/25/06 “you all have very good points. I guess I already knew that they were ALL heros. I guess it is still painful.” 4:25:14 AM 4/26/06 “The sad truth is that in 1980 when I completed the Incident Interdiction Training we got this long talk about "Don't intervene, stay quiet we will come get you." Now a huge chunk of our training (FIRE SERVICE) is for "response" to incidents. It is real nice knowing that there are wack jobs willing to kill specidifcally civilians to make their point. It IS going to happen again..the very fact that they are now attacking their own people (EGYPT) shows they are going into the SNAPPING DOG phase. You can choose to face it...or wait till it comes for you. There are a lot of people taking the same tact the German Civilians in Dachau took in the 1930's and 1940's...but then history will always repeat itself until we learn.” 7:49:50 AM 4/26/06 Jump to Page << prev
