Sept 11th. how will you remeber?

Humanpackmule, I would say that your experience was much more directly affected by 9/11 than a lot of peoples, although it is somewhat different than what people in the trade centers at the time experienced as they made their way out (those that did, that is). Or the people that lived with the airborne debris and the sight of the collapsed buildings for months. HPM, that must have been quite a traumatic moment in your life. All I can say is that I hope that this type of event doesn't happen with increasing frequency.”

I had a neighbor in TN that used to live in NY. I always talked to him and his wife at the bus station in the morning. We had fun and joked around, but also had some serious discussions. I know he had a lot of firefighter friends, some of them now dead.

This year it just became too much and he did not feel strong enough to handle life. He comited suicide. I can't describe what I felt when I found out.

“I'm with you on that, Laq. I don't need to hear the politicians talk, the news people to ramble off scripted rhetoric, or any of the 'specials' they have put together for our benefit. I willl settle for talking on here a little, being with my family and remembering in my own heart. I choose not to ignore that part of it. I'm going to go on and, instead of starting a new thread about this, briefly tell a quick account from that morning two years ago. At 8:53 AM, I received a frantic phone call from an attorney friend (whom I didn't know too well at the time being that I only got the job 3 weeks before) that the WTC is on fire. He was ranting, " Holy #&%!$, the #&%!$ing thing is missing 8 floors, and on and on. I said to myself, Whoa. This guy is pretty excited, so i punched up CNN.com and saw a picture of the first tower. Well, I called Maple and told her and then she walked out(being down within view of the towers where she works) and she saw the second plane hit. Well, the rest is history and I won't elongate this post with it. But, I will share a link to some pictures I have if anyone is interested. The guy I mentioned before on the phone lived in Battery City about 6 blocks from the WTC. He was shaving before he called me, when he heard a thunderous roar. He said it shook the mirror and he couldn't understand what made that noise. Curiously, he went to the terrace and saw the devastation. What follows on the link is a series of pictures he took. Please don't label me morbid for posting these or obsessed with death or whatever. I am just sharing something today with those that are interested. Forgive me if you think what I am doing is overkill on the subject. Maybe it's just my way of dealing with it. Here goes:

there is not one NY'r that did not hear of either a freind of a frined or your postman or the lady down the street whoes sons friend died that day. my sons class mate father did not make it home that day. what im trying to say is in some way we are all linked together.
sorry if i have not made what im saying and feeling clear, its hard sometimes to remove emotions and to make the other person understand what im feeling.

“Film Expert Expecting More Intense 9/11 Images

A local film expert says expect to see more and more intense images from that infamous day.

When that first plane hit the World Trade Center, what Americans heard and saw was raised to a new level of horrifying.

But expect that level to rise, says Jonathan Estren, dean of the College of Media Arts and Design at Drexel University:

"There were things that the news media actually chose not to show because it was too horrifying. You may see some of that now, two years later. Why? We've got to show something new, we've got to show something bigger, we've got to keep it alive -- and it's going to take more to do that."

Estren says the lessening impact of the September 11th images might work for the good by helping people to cope with what happened -- or the bad, by making people emotionally dead to what has happened:

"In order to get the audience to feel that afresh, you have to do something that will make them feel it now the way they felt it two years ago. We need more in order to get the same hit off it, so to speak."”

How firefighters and others worked so hard endangering themselves to try and rescue those still living, how new york city held together in order to go on after that tragedy. What I saw gave me hope that human kind is not as cold and ruthless as sometimes I believed.”

But, I can say that the couple times I've seen the previews, I've felt disturbed. And, even a little guilty for the companies that are benefiting financially from this story.

On the other hand, there may be many people who will gain from a movie like this. Maybe even some of the people who lost loved ones. It might make some feel good to see their loved ones portrayed as heros for all of the world to see. And... it's not like this is the first tradegy to be made into a film.”

Though this movie is based on truth I find it very disturbing that we are in another war based on lies and no one seems to care...maybe after 10 years, billions of $$$ spent, and who knows how many dead soldiers Americans will wake up again.

I think it will show how the bravery and ingenuity of the passengers thwarted a portion of the terrorists' September 11 plans, at the cost of their own lives (although they probably hoped that they would survive if they took over the plane). The WTC and Pentagon hits were bad enough, who knows the additional chaos that could have resulted from a hit on the White House or the Capitol Building? If the passengers on the three other flights had done the same thing our recent history could be totally different. They probably would have, if they had known that they were doomed anyway. “The sad truth is that in 1980 when I completed the Incident Interdiction Training we got this long talk about "Don't intervene, stay quiet we will come get you."

Now a huge chunk of our training (FIRE SERVICE) is for "response" to incidents. It is real nice knowing that there are wack jobs willing to kill specidifcally civilians to make their point.
