From the post that brought this thread up again, it's obvious that Xlax chooses to observe the tragedy and sacrifice of September 11 by perpetuating ugliness.

It's an insult to those that died that day.

How I will remember....
I will be celebrating my freedom, the same Freedom that was tragically and heinously taken away from all of the victims of 9/11, and their families, by backpacking with some good friends in the Dolly Sods, WV. I will be remembering all the brave and tireless first responders who toiled and Ground Zero and @ the Pentagon, who gave their all to rescue any survivors. I will especially remember my precious brother-in-law Ray, an FDNY'er who was at the scene within hours after the first plane hit, remained there working for two solid weeks, and was finally felled by Esophageal cancer in the summer of '07, we believe as a direct result of his work at Ground Zero.

I drove past the Pentagon yesterday, saw a sign for the Pentagon Memorial but didn't have time to stop (hour 7 of an 8 hour drive home). I was definitely thinking about that day as I went past...

I try to act like we still have something to make the rest of the world jealous.

Besides that I flew a flag from my backpack all last week in the mountains. Figured it was close enough.

I'll be out on a beach, like I was the morning of 9/11 (different beach) before I had learned what had happened, recovering from a long night of partying and sleeping under the stars.

Usually on the Saturday or Sunday closest to 9/11, I participate in Flags on the 48 - and fly the American Flag from one of the 48 4K in New Hampshire. Its a great event and last year I added a new twist, taking burn survivors and friends to Cannon Mountain and carrying a list of the names of the fire fighters who perished in the World Trade Center.
I'm not doing it this year due to a high profile family event I don't feel right getting out of - and I'm a little bummed out over this. This time, I will invite all my family members to come to next year's event. That way, not matter what anyone else has organized down the road - I've already staked my claim on the day.

I will mention the anniversary to my class, and I will take some time to remember. The anniversary has become more meaningful to me over the years.

I will try to remember the act was committed by a sick group bent on telling everyone else how they have to life. And I will look for ways to celebrate the freedom and right of responsibility that so many have died for.

Oh and I will try to remember the act was committed by worshipers of the Drunken Child Molester named Mohammed....Lets see how many times Islamists or Muslim or a related term is used on the news.

Kinda like talking about Pearl Harbor and never mentioning the Japanese.

It's one thing to discuss 9/11 remembrances/plans when the conversation happens to come up, but what I find distasteful are people who make a point to bring it up in every conversation and let everyone know that they'll be doing something special - like Birch did above. I always suspect the person is doing it more for selfish social reasons than for 9/11.

Course....I have found the people who took heroic actions on that day would keep doing it and never really needed a special "day" to be heroic.

I think in Birch's case it was irony as he is over there with Haji.

Yeah for some people it kinda sucks when we have a true hero like Birch who is ACTUALLY doing what most would fear to do.

Guess what, if Birch wants to remind us of why we are there...I say let him. He earned the right. Hell the old man (LOL) (lovingly Birch) got out of his walker and made it through training to go keep the wolves from our door. THAT is a hero.

The definition of hero has become so watered down that it bears little to no resemblance to its historically accurate usage.

Even though it was a trollish remark, crash bang brings up an important point: military service does not occur in a vacuum. There may very well be other factors that would preclude respect, and certainly hero status. Consider an extreme example: http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local-beat/4_Marines_Charged_in_Murder_of_Marine_Wife.html

No I admire Birch for what he is doing. You know tilty, one of the fun parts of my job was watching the little whiney damp trouser crowd at a fire scene. You could always tell the libbie puss ball because they were trying to act tough around the incredible heroics of the men and women fighting the fire.

When all you have to place in your obit was that you 'protested' some crack house (meaning took no REAL action) well Tilty...I understand you are scared by the term Responsibility.

You conveniently left out the following: and pass on the message that many of us haven't forgotten the 11th

As I said above, I find that kind of behavior suspect in that it's probably not an end in itself, but a means to a different end (social gratification). Having seen years of his and his wife's smarmy posts here only strengthens my suspicion.
